Starting Tuesday, September 1st, the Hays County 9-1-1 and Kyle 9-1-1 will align with area dispatch centers in Hays County by utilizing the Police Priority Dispatch System.
The PPDS is a structured system that provides standardized questioning prompts for dispatchers to ask callers.

What does this mean for you?

When you call 9-1-1 or the non-emergency dispatch number, the call taker will ask certain questions based on the situation. While the number of questions may seem like a lot, it ensures the right information gets to the right people so they can make the right decisions on who responds to address your need. Know that as questions are being asked and answered by one person, another person is reviewing your responses and sending first responders. In critical situations, help is already on the way while we're working through all questions and gathering additional details from you.

What does it mean for first responders?

The standardized and methodical questions promote consistency in identifying and communicating critical safety information earlier in the call. This allows them to have critical information quickly and consistently should their response tactics need to be adjusted.

Through the Police Priority Dispatch System, our goal is to improve service quality to the community so we can get you the help you need as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Two years later, the impact still remains. ❤️

Two years ago, a Hays County resident made a 911 call she will never forget. Her daughter was in cardiac arrest, and on the other end of the line was Hays County 911 Dispatcher Eden Dunn.

For more than 10 minutes, Eden remained on the phone with the mother, calmly guiding her through CPR instructions until EMS arrived.

Because of those efforts, her daughter survived.

This past Friday, August 28, Eden received a handmade quilt from that same mother, one of several quilts she created for the other first responders who played a part in helping save her daughter’s life.

What began as a 911 call in a moment of unimaginable fear has become a story of survival, gratitude, and the lasting impact of our dispatchers’ dedication and compassion.

We are incredibly proud of Eden, our dispatchers and the difference they make every day from the other end of the line. 💙

Attention, Hays County Community! 🕊️

Dove hunting season opens tomorrow, September 1, which means residents in unincorporated areas of Hays County may hear an increase in gunfire.

Our deputies will continue to respond to concerns involving trespassing, unsafe firearm use, or other dangerous or unlawful behavior.

As a reminder, the discharge of a firearm is generally legal in unincorporated areas of Hays County, provided it is done in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Please remain aware of your surroundings and report any activity that appears unsafe or unlawful.

No special White-winged days. No special bag limits. Thanks to healthy dove populations, we’re all going by the same playbook.

Today, we pause to remember Corrections Officer James N. Henry, who dedicated more than 22 years of his life to serving Hays County.

End of Watch: August 27, 2021

For more than two decades, Officer Henry showed up to serve his community and the men and women he worked alongside. On August 27, 2021, he passed away from complications resulting from COVID-19 following a presumed exposure while serving on duty at the Hays County Jail.

While we cannot bring Officer Henry back, we can make sure his service, his sacrifice, and his place within this agency are never forgotten.

Today, we are honored to unveil the newly remodeled Hays County Sheriff’s Office Wall of Honor, located inside the Hays County Public Safety Building.

Each of our fallen personnel is honored with a shadow box and a permanent seat, a seat that represents the place they will always hold within our agency. Though they are no longer here to fill it, their place among us remains.

This Wall of Honor is more than a display. It is a promise that the men and women who gave everything in service to others will continue to be remembered by those who walk these halls.

We are incredibly grateful to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office Alumni Association for funding this project and to Non-Profit Saving A Hero's Place for the remarkable memorial chair. The chair serves as a powerful reminder of the empty seat left behind when one of our own makes the ultimate sacrifice.

Today, we remember James.

22 years of service. One lasting legacy. Forever a part of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office.

Rest easy, Officer Henry. Your service mattered. Your sacrifice matters. And you will never be forgotten. Thank you.
