Safety Trivia Tuesday!

Week 2: Vacation & Vehicle Safety

❓ TRUE OR FALSE?

Leaving your garage door opener inside your vehicle can't put your home at risk.

Answer:

Hopefully, we didn't trick you and read the question correctly. 😉

Leaving a garage door opener in your vehicle is absolutely a safety risk. If your vehicle is burglarized, a suspect could gain access to your garage and potentially your home, putting your property, valuables, and personal safety at risk. To reduce this risk, avoid leaving garage door openers and other items that could provide access to your residence inside an unattended vehicle, especially overnight or when parked outside your home.

🎓 Congratulations to the graduates of the inaugural Hays County Teen Cadet Academy! 🎓

This week, our first-ever Hays County Teen Cadet Academy provided High School students currently enrolled in law enforcement courses with a unique opportunity to explore the many facets of law enforcement through hands-on training, real-world scenarios, and team-building exercises. The academy offered an inside look at the skills, responsibilities, and teamwork required to serve and protect our community.

Throughout the academy, the young cadets learned about traffic stops, crime scene investigations, building searches, room and building clearing techniques, verbal de-escalation, footprint tracking, and much more. They were challenged to work together as a team, communicate effectively, and rely on one another to successfully navigate a variety of scenarios. Their dedication, teamwork, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones made this inaugural program a tremendous success.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Kyle Police Department, Sprouts Farmers Market- Kyle, Hays County Crime Stoppers, Hays County Community Engagement, the Hays County Law Enforcement Association, Live Oak Academy for allowing us to use their space and Quantum Towing for their generous support and contributions to this program. Their partnership helped make this inaugural academy possible and provided our cadets with an unforgettable experience.

A special thank you to our School Resource Officer (SRO) Division, whose hard work, planning, and mentorship made the Hays County Teen Cadet Academy possible. Their commitment to educating, inspiring, and building positive relationships with our youth made a lasting impact on every student.

Congratulations to our cadets for successfully completing the academy and becoming the first graduating class of the Hays County Teen Cadet Academy. We are proud of each of you and look forward to seeing what the future holds!

🦌 If you care, leave them there.

It's important to remember that a baby animal being alone does not automatically mean it has been abandoned. In many cases, the mother has intentionally left the young animal in a safe location while she searches for food and will return when it is safe to do so.

If you find a baby animal:

✅ Observe from a distance.
✅ Leave the animal where it is unless it is in immediate danger.
✅ If you are concerned about the animal's health or wellbeing, contact local animal control, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, or the appropriate wildlife authority for guidance.
✅ Allow wildlife professionals to assess the situation before taking action.

Please do not:

❌ Pick up or handle wildlife.
❌ Move the animal to a different location.
❌ Attempt to care for the animal yourself.
❌ Leave food or water nearby, as this can attract predators and create additional risks.

The best thing you can do for baby wildlife is often the hardest—leave them alone and give their mother the opportunity to return.
