💧⛰️ Ever wonder why water tanks are often located on hilltops?

It's not just for the view.

Water systems use gravity to help deliver water pressure to homes and businesses. By storing water at higher elevations, Vallecitos can use the weight of water to create pressure throughout the distribution system—often without additional pumping.

Engineering Fact:
📏 Every 2.31 feet of elevation creates approximately 1 pound per square inch (psi) of water pressure.

That means a tank located 231 feet above a neighborhood can provide about 100 psi of pressure through gravity alone.

Our Sustainable Demonstration Garden recently welcomed a group of plein air artists who spent the day painting outdoors and drawing inspiration from the sights and sounds of our water-wise garden.

Visitors can enjoy native plants, a Native Plant Seed Library, a Little Free Library, and recirculating rainwater fountains that showcase sustainable landscaping practices.

Come say hello to the Vallecitos Water District team at the AD76 Family Palooza this Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm! We'll be sharing information about water conservation, local water supplies, careers in public utilities, and the important work that happens behind the scenes to serve our community every day. We will also have a craft for kids while supplies last.

I’m proud to announce that I am hosting a cost-free AD 76 Family Palooza in partnership with the Escondido YMCA – A Campus for Community Wellbeing. The event will feature family-friendly activities, community resources, and safety services aimed at supporting youth and families across the region.

This event will also feature bike safety obstacle courses with free children’s helmets, car seat safety inspections, an opportunity drawing, and resource tables on affordability, education, public safety, and local youth activity programs.

🚜 Infrastructure Spotlight

This may look like a large meter attached to a fire hydrant—and that's exactly what it is.

Known as a construction meter, it allows contractors to obtain temporary water service while enabling the District to measure water usage just like a permanent service connection. Construction sites often need water for activities such as dust control, soil compaction, concrete work, and utility testing.

Simple equipment. Important job. Reliable water management.
