We are happy to announce that Autumn Schwartz and I have agreed to join forces. Autumn and her husband Josh opened their office just about the same time we opened Fortin and Associates.
Each time I talk with Autumn, I am aware that our two companies share the same view of how a client should be treated and what services we want to offer our clients. That is why I agreed to join with Schwartz and Associates. Their company also offers some additional services which I have not been able to offer because of lack of staffing or knowledge.
In the coming months there will be a slow transition. Effective immediately, please use the 116 South LBJ Drive address for any correspondence and for dropping off any materials. There is a mail slot so evening or weekend drop offs are fine. Because of COVID, appointments are mandatory.

We have moved out of the offices at West Hopkins.
We are looking at several options for the future and will keep clients updated. Not retiring, just reorganizing.

The landlord is planning some renovations. So we have agreed to move out before the lease is up. Will be vacating the premises by the end of July.
We have a lot of office supplies - file folders, hanging files, bookcase, coffee pot, desk accessories, and so much more - for sale.
Put the bigger items on Marketplace. File cabinets and chair.

I have done some research on the upcoming Coronavirus relief from Congress.
At this time, the stimulus package contains something about unemployment benefits... FYI unemployment payments are taxable income and will appear on the 2020 tax return you file next year. Additionally, the checks that are planned are being labeled "tax rebates" just as the ones sent several years ago. That means, in plain English, that these are advanced refunds on taxes owed in 2020... so next year when we file our tax return, that money will be subtracted from "taxes paid" so .... yep, you gonna pay them back. BUT the package has not passed and the first checks won't even come out til early April, so who knows what the final deal will be. Just giving you educated advice.

Fortin and Associates will be closed until August 31. We can be contacted via phone, but will not be venturing out in this mess until the threat of Harvey is past.

For most folks it is almost Thanksgiving and then there is Christmas. For us, it is almost tax season and we are starting to plan the training for the AARP volunteers. Gloria got her continuing ed... now she gets to teach others.

We have lost several clients this year. This one really hurts. Russell was a crumudgeon, but he was MY Crumudugeon! Once I got accustomed to his gruff ways, he was a pleasure to work for and with. He had a rough summer and I am glad he will no longer be "really tired and ready to retire." But I so wish he had had the chance to retire. RIP Russell. God be with your family.
