The TSIE Program offers non-credit-bearing, academic-based, intensive English programs to international students and Texas State University faculty and staff focusing on reading, listening, speaking, writing, grammar, American culture, and test preparation. ed 4 days per week each semester (fall, spring, and summer) for 15 weeks in the fall and spring or 10 weeks in the summer. All TSIE classes are housed on the main campus of Texas State University and are conducted by professionally-trained instructors with advanced degrees in Foreign Language Education, TESOL, and/or English. Through participation in TSIE classes, students will engage in activities and assignments geared toward improving academic English proficiency and ultimately obtain the tools necessary to succeed in freshmen-level undergraduate and graduate courses at the university level. Students will be evaluated before, during, and after their participation in TSIE to ensure proficiency goals are met and allow for a smooth and successful transition for language training to participation in credit-bearing degree programs.

English Improvement for Success

The TSIE Program at Texas State University offers credit and non-credit-bearing, academic-based, intensive English programs to international students, community members, scholars, faculty and staff. Courses focus on reading, listening, speaking, writing, grammar, American culture, and test preparation. English for special purposes (such as business or medicine) are also available. Classes are offered 4 days per week each semester (fall, spring, and summer) for 15 weeks in the fall and spring or 10 weeks in the summer. TSIE classes are held both on the main campus in San Marcos and Round Rock campus of Texas State University and are conducted by professionally-trained instructors with advanced degrees in Foreign Language Education, TESOL, and/or English. Through participation in TSIE classes, students will engage in activities and assignments geared toward improving academic English proficiency and ultimately obtain the tools necessary to succeed in freshmen-level undergraduate and graduate courses at the university level. Students will be evaluated before, during, and after their participation in TSIE to ensure proficiency goals are met and allow for a smooth and successful transition from language training to participation in credit-bearing degree programs, better experience at work, or other language related goals.
