Hays County is growing, and our healthcare system needs to grow with it.

Finding a primary care doctor or medical specialist has become more difficult for many families. At the same time, many healthcare providers are facing increasing challenges because they serve a growing number of uninsured and underinsured patients. That makes it harder for all of us to get the care we need, when we need it.

That's why we're working on the formation of Hays Health.

Hays Health will focus on expanding access to care, making healthcare more affordable, improving mental health services throughout the county, supporting the healthcare professionals who care for our community, and strengthening emergency preparedness. Hays Health will focus on making our healthcare dollars go further and will even save Tax Dollars to benefit the people of Hays County.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing more about what Hays Health is, how it works, and what it could mean for our community. We invite everyone to learn more, ask questions, and be part of the conversation as we work toward a healthier future for Hays County.

Healthy People. Stronger Communities.

As we begin Hays County’s budget process, I want to be completely transparent: we must be disciplined with taxpayer dollars.

Each tab is a request of
MORE THAN 15%!!!

Throughout my time in office, we have worked hard to keep Hays County on a fiscally responsible path while maintaining one of the lowest tax rates in our history. I intend to protect that progress because the hardworking families and businesses of Hays County cannot afford unnecessary tax increases. DIESEL is $5 a gallon right now.

As I review department budget requests, it’s clear that many include substantial increases in spending. While I recognize the need to invest in essential services, maintain county operations, and provide fair compensation for our employees, every request must be justified. There are wants, and there are needs, and it is our responsibility to know the difference.

I will scrutinize this budget line by line, looking for every opportunity to eliminate waste, improve efficiency, and ensure that every tax dollar delivers real value to the people we serve. My commitment is simple: protect essential services, spend responsibly, and keep as much of your hard-earned money in your pocket as possible.

July 15, 2026

As of this time, all Hays County offices remain open and operating under normal business hours.

However, weather conditions continue to create hazardous travel in portions of the county. If you do not need to be on the road, please stay home and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions
improve.

Residents are encouraged to monitor current road conditions and the status of low water crossings by visiting

HaysInformed.com

If you encounter a barricaded roadway or low water crossing, do not attempt to drive through it.

Barricades are in place to protect lives and indicate unsafe conditions.

Turn Around, Don't Drown. Even a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle away.

Please continue to monitor official Hays County communication channels for updates as conditions change. We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep yourself, your family, and our
first responders safe.

Thank you,
Ruben Becerra
Hays County Judge

I profoundly disagree with the Governor’s framing.

It is divisive, shortsighted, and far too narrow for someone entrusted to lead one of the most diverse states in America.

We are elected to serve every Texan—not just those who fit a particular political narrative. We should be focused on comprehensive immigration reform, border security, and a functioning legal immigration system, not rhetoric that divides communities and diminishes the dignity of families.

Strong leaders solve difficult problems. They don’t inflame them.

Some moments stay with you.

This was one of them.

It was an honor to speak at the Texas Democratic Convention in Corpus Christi, the birthplace of LULAC, and to share a part of my family’s story.

We came to this country from Matamoros with hope, faith, and a belief that hard work, service, and perseverance could open doors that once felt impossible.

That belief shaped my life. It shaped how I understand public service. And it is why I still believe so deeply in the people of Texas and in the future we can build together.

Thank you to everyone who made this convention possible, and to everyone who continues showing up for our communities.
I hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch.

Some moments stay with you. This was one of them.It was an honor...
