One of Superintendent Dr. Andy Johnsen’s favorite parts of the job is spending time on our campuses. He always enjoys stopping by classrooms to say hello and connect with the students, teachers, and staff who make SMUSD such a special place.

This visit to San Marcos High School was a wonderful reminder of the learning, energy, and connection happening across our district every day!

Ready, set, ride safely!

SMUSD kicked off its e-bike and bicycle safety program for the 2026-27 school year at San Elijo Middle School! Students learned important rules of the road and safe-riding practices before having their bikes and helmets inspected and receiving their permit stickers.

Thank you to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and the City of San Marcos for helping our students ride safely and responsibly.

SMUSD students must complete the training to receive a permit to park their e-bikes or bicycles on campus. Visit this link for upcoming training dates and locations: https://www.smusd.org/e-bike-safety-program

E-Bike & Bicycle Safety Classes Are Coming Up!

Students who plan to park an e-bike or bicycle on an SMUSD campus are required to have an SMUSD permit.

To receive a permit, students must attend an in-person safety class with at least one parent or guardian. Students may attend any listed session, regardless of school, and must bring their e-bike or bicycle and helmet.

Upon completion, students will receive permit stickers for their bike and helmet.

Check out the upcoming dates and locations, and help us keep our students safe on the road!

San Elijo Elementary celebrated 20 years with a special look back at its history, including the opening of a time capsule during the flag salute led by Principal Mara McLeod! The time capsule included notes signed by students and staff, class photos, and artwork.

The festivities brought together students, staff, families, and special guests, including Founding Principal Lynda McDonell, former staff members and past Board members, along with Superintendent Dr. Andy Johnsen, Governing Board Clerk Heidi Herrick, Board Member Lena Meum, and Board Member Sarah Ahmad.

Happy Anniversary, San Elijo Elementary! Here’s to many more years of memories, milestones, and school spirit!
