Happy Independence Day, friends! As our nation marks its 250th anniversary, San Diego Vet Dems honors the courage of those who stood against tyranny to establish a republic founded upon the enduring principles of liberty and justice. We also pay homage to the generations of Americans who sacrificed to preserve, strengthen, and expand those principles for those who would come after them.
Their legacy now faces a defining test as our nation stands at a pivotal crossroads. "We the People" must choose whether we will surrender to hatred and division, or embrace the noble ideals upon which this nation was founded and rededicate ourselves to their pursuit.
Though America has often fallen short of its promise, its greatest strength has always been its capacity for reflection and growth. The lessons of our history remind us that meeting the challenges of our time requires both the wisdom to preserve what is worth defending and the courage to confront what must be changed. The work of building a more perfect Union is never finished, and the responsibility to continue it belongs to us all.
For veterans, that responsibility is embodied in the oath we swore—not to any political party or individual, but to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the people it serves. Military service may come to an end, but our duty to safeguard the democratic institutions and civic values entrusted to our care does not. In fulfilling that duty, we strive to leave future generations a more resilient, equitable, and inclusive republic that reflects the values we share and proves worthy of those who will inherit it.
