The best lunch in town today is at the Dunbar Center in San Marcos.

Stopped by the Juneteenth Foundation’s annual Fish Fry alongside Mayor Jane Hughson and some incredible community volunteers. Constable David Peterson shared they had already sold more than 500 fish filets by midday, which tells you everything you need to know.

They’re serving up delicious fish, hush puppies, beans, coleslaw, and all the fixin’s while supporting a great cause. If you get a chance, swing by before 2:30PM, grab a plate, and support the Juneteenth Foundation.

Congratulations to Freddy Duran on being sworn in this evening as the newest member of the San Marcos CISD Board of Trustees, representing District 2!

Congratulations as well to District 1 Trustee Jessica Cain and District 3 Trustee Sandra Lopez, who were also sworn in during our May meeting.

Things have been a little hectic lately, so we haven’t had the opportunity to properly celebrate our new and returning trustees. We’ll fix that at our June 15 Regular Board Meeting, and the community is invited to join us.

There’s going to be pink party cake, y’all.

Here’s to another great year of serving the students, staff, and families of San Marcos CISD!

Congratulations to Dr. Michelle Cohen on her landslide victory last night and becoming our Democratic nominee for County Judge.

I’ve been thinking a lot about last night and honestly what keeps coming back to me is this: leadership matters.

Over the last 11 years serving in public office, I’ve tried my best to show up for this community when it mattered most. During the floods in San Marcos. During COVID-19. During Winter Storm Uri. During wildfires and emergencies across our region. Not because it was politically convenient, but because I genuinely believe public service is a sacred responsibility. When people trust you with their vote, that should mean something.

One of the reasons I’m so hopeful after last night is because so many of the people in this photo share that same belief. I’ve seen it firsthand. These are people who answer the phone during a crisis. People who stay late. People who show up quietly when families need help. People who care deeply about this county and the people who call it home.

Real leadership isn’t about press releases, social media posts, or building yourself up. It’s about lifting up other people. It’s about showing up when your community needs you most.

I love Hays County. I love San Marcos. And I truly believe our community deserves leaders who put people first every single time.

Proud to stand alongside leaders like Michelle Cohen, Erin Zwiener, Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe , Lucy Johnson, Kim Porterfield, Robert Rizo, Alyssa Garza, Diana Hendricks, Lori Moya, Linda Rodriguez, Ana Juarez, and so many others who care more about service than status.

Big night for Hays County. The work continues.

The San Marcos High School Class of 2026 has given this community a whole lot to be proud of.

This graduating class includes state champions, national champions, National Merit Scholars, future doctors, teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs, artists, service members, and students heading everywhere from Ivy League universities to Texas State University, trade programs, the workforce, and military service.

But beyond the awards and accomplishments, this class is filled with good young people who have shown resilience, heart, leadership, and pride in their community.

No matter where life takes you next, never forget where you came from.

San Marcos will always be home, and this community will always be proud of you.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. Your future is so bright.

There’s something really special about seeing kids at CM Allen and Allen Woods getting to celebrate the end of the school year surrounded by community, support, and people who genuinely care about them.

Huge thank you to the San Marcos Fire Department, Councilwoman Alyssa C. Garza, and Councilwoman Amanda Rodriguez for showing up and helping make these celebrations so meaningful for our families and kids.

This is what community looks like.

First day of early voting and right before the San Marcos CISD Board meeting, Dr. Michelle Cohen stopped by to personally drop off a donation supporting San Marcos High School Project Graduation.

That moment honestly says a lot about who she is. Even though Dr. Cohen does not geographically represent San Marcos CISD as a county commissioner, that has never stopped her from showing up for our students, families, and schools. I’ve seen it firsthand over the years. She consistently finds ways to support San Marcos kids because she genuinely cares about this community.

Project Graduation is one of those traditions that means a lot to families. It gives our seniors a safe and memorable way to celebrate such a major milestone, and it only happens because people step up and invest in our students.

I appreciate leaders who quietly do the work and support young people without making it about themselves. Dr. Cohen has always been willing to do that for San Marcos families, and I’m grateful for her continued support of our schools and students.

Huge congratulations to these incredible San Marcos High School students who earned their Associate’s Degrees and walked the stage at Coastal Bend College in Beeville this past Friday!

Think about that for a second. These students are graduating high school with a college degree already in hand. That takes serious hard work, discipline, sacrifice, and determination. They earned this.

As a proud product of San Marcos CISD myself, moments like this mean a lot to me because they show exactly what our students are capable of when we continue investing in strong schools, academic opportunities, and programs that prepare students for the future.

Our students continue to make San Marcos proud and the future of Rattler Nation is incredibly bright.

Please join me in congratulating these amazing students and their families on this major accomplishment!

Congratulations, Class of 2026!

Had a great time today at the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce Member Appreciation Cookout and got volunteered as the first elected official in the dunking booth representing San Marcos Consolidated ISD.

And look who stopped by… Kirsta Melton got me in the water on her second throw. Brooke Damron, David Case, and Kevin Wolf were also out there enjoying the fun and supporting the Chamber and the San Marcos Education Foundation!

Always good spending time with community members and local leaders while supporting everything the Chamber does for San Marcos and Hays County.

Grateful for the chance to keep serving our community.

Early Wednesday morning, around 2 a.m., at the end of a long San Marcos City Council meeting, I was appointed to serve on the San Marcos Housing Authority Board. I truly appreciate the Council’s vote of confidence.

I’m also thankful to continue my work on the Main Street Board.

Too many of our neighbors, including San Marcos CISD students and families, are dealing with housing insecurity. Stable, affordable housing matters for kids, for working families, for seniors, and for the long-term health of our city.

I’m looking forward to working alongside my fellow commissioners to expand access to safe, affordable, high-quality housing across our region. We have important votes ahead, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly.

My first Housing Authority board meeting is tonight. Time to roll up my sleeves and get to work.
