🕯️Dia de los Mu***os, or Day of the Dead, is a Latin American tradition to pay respect and remember friends and family members who have passed away. We invite your child age 3-11 to come and learn more about the holiday and create their own Nicho, or shadow box, to remember your family's loved ones. The San Marino Historical Society will be meeting on Monday, October 26 from 7 to 8 PM at the San Marino Community Center, MPR 1. In its Speakers Series, the Historical Society presents quarterly history talks focusing on topics specially selected for our town. Join us this quarter to hear from author, Robert Petersen. Robert Petersen is the host and producer of "The Hidden History of Los Angeles" podcast. When he is not working on the podcast, Robert is a Deputy Attorney General for the State of California. He is going to present about the works of architects Hudson and Munsell. Munsell lived in San Marino, and designed our City Hall and Thurnher House as well as other well-known places around LA. Citizen Science Kits are now available at Crowell Public Library! These kits are a great way to contribute to real scientific research in collaboration with scientists.

The goal of the first kit is to better observe pollinators in the community. With this kit, you will observe any flowering plant for at least five minutes, counting and identifying the pollinators that visit the plant, and then log the data online. The data will help scientists understand and respond to changes in pollinator populations and the types of flowering plants that pollinators prefer.

Come check out a kit today and explore how citizens can help with real science!

The Huntington Nurses Health Screening will be on Wednesday, October 14 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM in the Barth Community Room. The Huntington Nurses offer free blood pressure and glucose screenings. Blood pressure and glucose evaluations can lead to prevention and early detection of “silent killer” diseases such as hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes. Please plan to fast for at least 2 hours prior to having glucose checked. Registration is not required.

Please note there will be no Health Screening on November 11.

👻Tweens and teens recently had the chance to use glow-in-the-dark paint to create luminous paintings for the fall season at the Eerie Glowing Painting program. We enjoyed seeing their not-too-spooky creativity and art skills at work! This program was sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
