Last week, the Menlo Park Fire Department paid a special visit to our friends at Izzi East Palo Alto! 🚒 The firefighters read stories to the children and gave them a tour inside their fire truck. How cool is that? Our kids have been learning about community helpers, and meeting real firefighters showed them that helpers are friendly faces they can always turn to when they need help. We’re so grateful they took time out of their busy day to spend with our kids! ❤️

On Friday, October 2nd, we welcomed volunteers from compassionweekla, citynationalbank, bankofamerica, and the Carmona family for a full day of service at Izzi at Magnolia, East Palo Alto, and Lakewood. 21 volunteers pitched in with outdoor cleaning, painting, and organizing teaching materials. Site Supervisor Muna from EPA shared that the volunteers went above and beyond and did an amazing job with every task they were given.

Our goal is to make this a regular event on Site Days at all of our locations, bringing in volunteers to handle organizing, sanitizing, and cleaning so our staff can focus on their professional development and other essential tasks.

A big thank you to everyone who came out and to our site teams for hosting them!

It's Head Start Awareness Month!

In case you haven't heard, the government recently announced some possible changes to the way Head Start programs, like Izzi, can operate their programs. At Izzi, we are concerned about how these changes could affect our children, families, and staff.

These changes are not final – you can share feedback through next Tuesday, October 6. We hope you will consider submitting a public comment explaining why Izzi and Head Start matters to your family and why you oppose these changes.

Join the nearly 30,000 public comments on the federal register. Participating is a choice, and we are grateful for any support you can offer. Visit us at izziearlyed.org/advocacy to learn more.

Thank you for joining us to protect Head Start! Submit by 10/6!

As Literacy Month comes to a close, we're sharing one of our favorite ways to keep the reading going all year! Did you know many of our families also benefit being a part of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library? Lakewood parents signed-up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program, where children ages 0–5 living in San Mateo County can get a free, age-appropriate book mailed to their home every month until they turn 5. What an amazing and generous gift for little readers! 💛

At Izzi, we believe a love of reading starts early, and every child deserves a home filled with books. If you're interested in this amazing opportunity check out imaginationlibrary.com to learn more!

Do you want to be an early childhood educator? We sent (who was also a former Izzi Head Start teacher!) to our sites in East Palo Alto to interview children if they’d consider becoming a teacher for San Mateo County too.

Check out their adorable unfiltered responses and teacher reactions in the full 6-minute video by visiting earlysparksmc.org.

Our application deadline is coming up on October 30, 2026 for the program dates starting in January 2027! Comment/tag/share with a friend!

In partnership with Unitedly and EDvance College.
