The Maguire Correctional Facility lobby is now home to a new cell phone charging station, made possible through grant funding and a partnership with San Mateo County Health’s Correctional Health Services Division.

Many people entering custody have cell phones that are stored with their personal property during incarceration. Upon release, those phones are returned but are often uncharged, making it difficult to call for a ride, contact family or connect with support services.

What may seem like a small change to the release process is already making a meaningful difference.

The charging station is available during regular business hours and is reserved for people who have recently been released from custody.
