Read-Aloud Volunteer Program

Read-Aloud Volunteer Program Read-Aloud is a relationship based program that fosters children the joy and love of learning through reading and storytelling.
(4)

Read-Aloud matches volunteers with kids to read together, and lets kids choose books for themselves. The program purchases all of the books and handles all training, coordination and administrative functions. We are funded by donations from individuals, foundations, community service groups, and corporate grants.

Read to a Dog! Children ages 5 to 12 can sign up for a twenty minute session where they will read aloud to a gentle dog provided by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, a nonprofit all-volunteer organization. This program will be held on September 14, September 21, and September 28 from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in West Branch's Community Meeting Room. Registration is required. Please call 510-981-6270 starting at noon on 8/24/23, or come into West Branch to register.

Read to a Dog is a great way for children to practice oral fluency, spend time with a friendly dog, and have fun. The goal is to help build a child’s self-esteem and confidence, as well as foster a fondness for reading. Alliance of Therapy Dogs is an international registry of certified therapy dog teams. ATD provides testing, certification, registration, support, and insurance for members who volunteer with their dogs in animal-assisted activities. ATD's objective is to form a network of caring individuals and their special dogs who are willing to share smiles and joy with people, young and old alike.
