Harbor Interfaith

Harbor Interfaith Donate-https://tr.ee/r678HFYOqL This historic structure also provided a base from which the agency flourished.

If you or someone you know is homeless or facing a housing crisis, visit harborinterfaith.org, call us at 310.831.9123, or come to our office at 670 W 9th St, San Pedro, 90731 so we can help. The mission of Harbor Interfaith Services is to empower the homeless and working poor to achieve self-sufficiency by providing support services including shelter, transitional housing, food, job placement, ad

vocacy, childcare, education, and life-skills training. Now celebrating its 41st year, Harbor Interfaith is the result of a 1987 merger between two San Pedro organizations: FISH, The Emergency Food Pantry and Advocacy Center (1975); and Harbor Interfaith Shelter (1983). The unification integrated the delivery of the most fundamental human services–nutrition and shelter–and enabled clients to be treated holistically. FISH inspired various community-wide education/outreach initiatives, and the Shelter became the wellspring for residential services, particularly those designed for homeless women with children. Subsequent early childhood and after school education programs yielded a comprehensive and advanced menu of services. Each year, our 90-day emergency shelter and 18-month transitional housing program provide residence and support (including childcare) to approximately 450 people. The Family Resource Center (FRC) extends aid in virtually all areas: free groceries, clothing and hygiene items; rental/utility assistance; case management and individualized referrals; access to medical and dental services; and enrollment in 14 benefit programs. Last year, 31,000 services were provided to 10,400 people. Both social and community service are built into FRC operations. Many nonprofit groups utilize (free of charge) its third-story board room and balcony–with an impressive “runway” view of the Port– for their meetings. The San Pedro Garden Club tends to the drought-resistant landscaping outside. As a result of these and other connections, hundreds of volunteers regularly staff the food pantry, clothing closet, and distribute food and toys to our clients during the holidays. Over 50 additional community organizations–from Girl Scout troops to synagogues–give money, donate food and clothing, and have representatives on our board. Harbor Interfaith serves the South Bay of Los Angeles County, Service Planning Area 8.

☀️🎉 Throwback Thursday: Unity in the Sun Family Festival! 🎉☀️

As summer comes to a close, we’re taking a look back at an incredible day of fun, connection, and community at our Unity in the Sun Family Festival! 💙

Last year, Harbor Interfaith Services was proud to partner with organizations including Century Villages at Cabrillo The Nonprofit Partnership Port of Long Beach Long Beach Health Department and City of Long Beach to bring this special event to the individuals and families we serve.

The festival was about more than just fun and games. It gave families an opportunity to connect with valuable community resources, build relationships, and enjoy a day together surrounded by their neighbors and supporters. 🤝

And, of course, we had to end the day with something special! 🎤✨ Our very own “Cabrillo’s Got Talent” talent show gave our clients the chance to take the stage and show off their incredible talents for everyone in attendance!

Events like this demonstrate the power of community. When organizations come together, we can create meaningful experiences that provide joy, connection, and valuable resources to the people we serve.

💙 With your continued support, we can keep creating moments like these and strengthening the communities we serve.

🎓💙 Throwback Thursday: Success Story! 💙🎓

Today, we’re looking back on the inspiring journey of Cash Monte!

After losing his home, Cash connected with the team at Harbor Interfaith Services and found safety, stability, and support at our Redondo Beach Pallet Shelter.

While staying at the shelter, Cash worked with our team to pursue his goals, including finding employment while continuing his high school education. Through determination, perseverance, and a willingness to keep moving forward, Cash was able to accomplish something truly incredible: he graduated! 🎉👏

Cash’s story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when someone is given the support and opportunity they need to overcome difficult circumstances. We couldn’t be prouder of his accomplishments and are excited to see what comes next for him as he moves toward bigger and brighter opportunities.

Congratulations, Cash! 🎓 Your hard work and dedication are an inspiration, and we wish you nothing but success in the next chapter of your journey!

🧴💙 Help Us Stock Our Hygiene Shelves! 💙🧴

Everyone deserves access to the basic essentials they need to feel comfortable, confident, and cared for. At Harbor Interfaith Services, we provide hygiene products to individuals and families experiencing homelessness throughout the South Bay, and we are especially in need of women’s hygiene products.
We are asking our generous community to help us stock up on essential items, including:
🌸 Pads and tampons
🌸 Feminine wipes
🪥 Toothbrushes & toothpaste
🧴 Shampoo & conditioner
🧼 Body wash & bar soap
🧴 Deodorant
👶 Diapers & baby care products

For women experiencing homelessness, access to menstrual and personal hygiene products can be especially difficult. A donation of these everyday necessities can provide comfort, dignity, and peace of mind to someone facing an already challenging situation.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us ensure that the people we serve have access to the essentials they need.

💙 Thank You, Students With Warmth! 💙

Harbor Interfaith Services is incredibly grateful to the amazing members of Students With Warmth for their generosity and commitment to making a difference in our community!

This dedicated group of students collected and donated an incredible variety of essential items to our Family Resource Center Food Pantry, including:

🥫 Food donations
👕 Clothing
🛏️ Blankets
🧴 Hygiene products

But they didn’t stop there! The students also generously donated their time and energy, volunteering in both our Food Pantry and Clothing Closet to help organize and distribute donations to the individuals and families we serve.

Their dedication is a wonderful reminder that you don’t have to wait until you’re older to make a meaningful impact. By giving their time, resources, and compassion, these students are already helping strengthen their community and support their neighbors in need.

To everyone at Students With Warmth, thank you for your incredible generosity and for rolling up your sleeves to help us serve our community. We are truly grateful for your partnership and everything you’ve done for Harbor Interfaith Services! 🙌💙

💉💙 National Immunization Month: Healthy Communities Start with Prevention!

This National Immunization Month, Harbor Interfaith Services is highlighting the importance of staying up to date on recommended vaccinations and taking proactive steps to protect our health and the health of those around us.

For individuals and families experiencing homelessness, accessing consistent healthcare can be especially challenging. Barriers such as transportation, limited access to healthcare providers, and unstable living situations can make it more difficult to receive routine preventive care.

That’s why increasing access to healthcare is such an important part of supporting the individuals and families we serve. By connecting our clients with healthcare resources and preventive services, we can help remove barriers and promote healthier communities.

💙 Prevention today can help build a healthier tomorrow.

This month, we encourage everyone to speak with their healthcare provider about which vaccinations are recommended for them and their families.

🎒📚 Back-to-School Support Begins with Community! 💙

As the new school year quickly approaches, Harbor Interfaith Services is working hard to ensure the children and families we serve have the supplies they need to start the year with confidence.

That’s why we’re incredibly grateful for this amazing donation of 40 brand-new backpacks, generously provided by community member Ann-Marie Wightman and her two children! Through their dedication—and with additional support from St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, they raised the funds to purchase these backpacks, helping equip students with the essentials they’ll need for a successful school year.

Acts of kindness like this do more than provide school supplies—they remind our families that their community believes in them and is invested in their future. Together, we’re helping students walk into the classroom prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

To Ann-Marie, her family, and everyone at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, thank you for your generosity and compassion. Your support will make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many local children, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
