If you or someone you know is homeless or facing a housing crisis, visit harborinterfaith.org, call us at 310.831.9123, or come to our office at 670 W 9th St, San Pedro, 90731 so we can help. The mission of Harbor Interfaith Services is to empower the homeless and working poor to achieve self-sufficiency by providing support services including shelter, transitional housing, food, job placement, ad

vocacy, childcare, education, and life-skills training. Now celebrating its 41st year, Harbor Interfaith is the result of a 1987 merger between two San Pedro organizations: FISH, The Emergency Food Pantry and Advocacy Center (1975); and Harbor Interfaith Shelter (1983). The unification integrated the delivery of the most fundamental human services–nutrition and shelter–and enabled clients to be treated holistically. FISH inspired various community-wide education/outreach initiatives, and the Shelter became the wellspring for residential services, particularly those designed for homeless women with children. Subsequent early childhood and after school education programs yielded a comprehensive and advanced menu of services. Each year, our 90-day emergency shelter and 18-month transitional housing program provide residence and support (including childcare) to approximately 450 people. The Family Resource Center (FRC) extends aid in virtually all areas: free groceries, clothing and hygiene items; rental/utility assistance; case management and individualized referrals; access to medical and dental services; and enrollment in 14 benefit programs. Last year, 31,000 services were provided to 10,400 people. Both social and community service are built into FRC operations. Many nonprofit groups utilize (free of charge) its third-story board room and balcony–with an impressive “runway” view of the Port– for their meetings. The San Pedro Garden Club tends to the drought-resistant landscaping outside. As a result of these and other connections, hundreds of volunteers regularly staff the food pantry, clothing closet, and distribute food and toys to our clients during the holidays. Over 50 additional community organizations–from Girl Scout troops to synagogues–give money, donate food and clothing, and have representatives on our board. Harbor Interfaith serves the South Bay of Los Angeles County, Service Planning Area 8.

✨ Throwback Thursday! ✨

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on one of the incredible members of the Harbor Interfaith Services family: Ramon Rendon, Director of our Beach Cities Pallet Shelter in Redondo Beach. 💙

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month 💜

Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia affect millions of individuals and families across the country. For those experiencing homelessness, the challenges associated with memory loss and cognitive decline can be even more severe.

Individuals living with Alzheimer’s may struggle to navigate daily life, access services, maintain housing, manage medications, or connect with support systems. Without stable housing and consistent care, these challenges can increase the risk of isolation, health complications, and prolonged homelessness.

At Harbor Interfaith Services, we recognize the importance of providing compassionate support, stable housing, and access to resources for vulnerable members of our community. Every person deserves dignity, understanding, and the opportunity to live safely and with the support they need.

This Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, we encourage our community to learn more about the disease, support caregivers, and help raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by individuals experiencing both cognitive decline and housing insecurity.

Together, we can build a more compassionate community for everyone. 💙

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Eladio not only for the motivation and wisdom he shared during the meeting, but also for the energy, encouragement, and kindness he consistently brings to our organization.

Volcano Science Experiment at the Children’s Center! 🌋✨

As the school year begins to wind down, our amazing preschool teachers brought some explosive fun into the classroom with a classic baking soda volcano experiment! 🧪

The children had an incredible time watching their volcanoes erupt while learning about science in a hands-on and engaging way. Activities like these help spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and foster a lifelong love of learning 💙

We are so grateful to our dedicated teaching staff for continuing to make every day exciting, educational, and memorable for the children in our care. Their passion and creativity help create an environment where kids can truly thrive 🌟

Your clothing donations make a difference 💙👕

Harbor Interfaith Services operates 13 locations across the South Bay, providing shelter, safety, support, and hope to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in our community.

One of the many ways we support those in our care is through clothing donations generously provided by people like you. Every jacket, pair of shoes, shirt, and blanket donated helps someone feel more comfortable, confident, and cared for during a difficult time.

What may no longer serve you could make a life-changing difference for someone in need, and we are incredibly grateful to our community for continuing to show such compassion and generosity. 🙌
