Child care vouchers are more than financial assistance—they are an investment in Marin families, children, and our community.
At Marin Child Care Council, we work with child care programs across Marin County to help families access the care they need. Today, hundreds of children in Marin are on the waitlist for child care.
For families who receive them, child care vouchers can make the difference between being able to remain employed, pursue an education, and contribute to their communities—or having to step away from those opportunities.
Vouchers also help strengthen the child care system itself. They provide child care programs with the financial stability they need to continue serving families, support their workforce, and keep child care settings stable and available to parents.
Marin Child Care Council is ready to support parents and child care providers with vouchers. We have the programs, the partnerships, and the ability to help families access care—we just need the funding to make it possible.

Childcare costs are straining families.

Today, I had the absolute joy of spending a few hours with the original CEO and team of Marin Child Care Council—back when we were known as “Project Care for Children.”(1979)
What an incredible gift to sit with the women who shaped this organization, built its foundation, and paved the way for those of us carrying the work forward today. They are true early childhood advocates whose passion and commitment helped create the foundation Mc3 stands on today.
There is something incredibly valuable about listening to the people who have lived the history, carried the work, and learned the lessons along the way. Experience is a gift, and there is so much wisdom in taking the time to hear it, learn from it, and carry it forward.
I left feeling grateful, inspired, and energized. We are fortunate to stand on the shoulders of some pretty remarkable women, and I’m honored to continue the legacy they started so many years ago.
I hope our work today makes them proud—and that they can see their vision, passion, and commitment living on through Mc3!

For many families, back-to-school season brings excitement and anticipation—but it can also bring added financial stress. At Marin Child Care Council, we know that having the supplies children need can make a meaningful difference for families in our programs.

Thanks to the generous support of Whole Foods, we were able to hand out 150 backpacks, along with Target gift cards to help families purchase the school supplies their children need to start the year ready to learn.

We hope these new backpacks brought a little extra excitement—and a lot of smiles—to the children and families we serve. ❤️

Thank you, Whole Foods, for helping make back-to-school a little brighter for Marin families!

One Year in Our New Home! 🎉

It’s hard to believe that it has already been one year since MC3 moved into our new office!

Over the past year, this space has become so much more than an office. It has become a place for connection, learning, collaboration, laughter, creativity, support, and community.

We’ve welcomed child care providers through our doors for trainings, workshops, conversations, celebrations, resources, and individualized support. We’ve gathered around tables to share ideas, solve problems, build relationships, and strengthen the incredible work happening every day in early childhood programs throughout Marin.

And we’ve had the privilege of serving parents and families throughout our community—helping them navigate the often overwhelming process of finding child care, connecting them with resources and information, answering questions, and supporting them as they make important decisions about the care of their children. Every family who has called, emailed, or walked through our doors has reminded us why this work matters.

We’ve also welcomed community partners into our
space to collaborate, share ideas, strengthen relationships, and work together toward a stronger child care system for Marin County.

Over this first year, we’ve grown, tried new things, created new opportunities, and continued finding meaningful ways to support children, parents, families, child care providers, and our greater community.

But what has truly made this place feel like home is all of you. 💗
To every provider, parent, family, partner, community member, and friend who has walked through our doors, called us, attended a training or event, partnered with us, or simply supported our work during this first year—thank you.

You have filled this space with purpose.

Here’s to one wonderful year in our new home and to many more years of opening our doors, building connections, strengthening child care, supporting families, and serving our community.

🏡 Happy 1-Year Anniversary in our new home, MC3!

¡Un año en nuestro nuevo hogar! 🎉

At Marin Child Care Council, community is at the heart of everything we do.

As the only agency in Marin County that provides critical services supporting the entire mixed-delivery child care system, we are proud to serve more families receiving state-funded voucher based child care than any other organization in the county. For more than 40 years, we have worked tirelessly to advocate for affordable child care for all families, strengthen the quality of early childhood education, and support the providers who make our mixed-delivery system possible.

We are incredibly honored to be recognized as one of Marin Magazine's Best Nonprofits in two categories:
Community Service and
Family Service

Thank you to Marin Magazine, the Marin Community Foundation, and to everyone who voted for us. Your support is a meaningful recognition of the work our team does every day on behalf of children, families, and early childhood educators throughout Marin County.

We remain committed to continuing this important work and are grateful for the trust and recognition of our community.

(espanol abajo)
Recently, we've noticed some confusion about what a mixed-delivery child care system is and why it is so important in Marin County.
A mixed-delivery system combines public investment with private and community-based child care providers to give families real choices in finding care that meets their unique needs. No single program or provider can meet the diverse needs of every family. Instead, it is the entire network of child care options working together that creates a strong early childhood system.
A mixed-delivery system includes three primary settings:

School-based programs: Public school and charter school Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and preschool programs.
Community-based organizations (CBOs): Nonprofit and for-profit child care centers, as well as Head Start programs.
Home-based care: Licensed Family Child Care (FCC) homes and family, friend, and neighbor (FFN) caregivers.
Every family's needs are different. Parents need child care that works with their work schedules, their child's age and temperament, transportation, language, culture, preferred curriculum, and sometimes nontraditional work hours. A parent working nights or weekends may need a licensed Family Child Care home. Another family may prefer a center-based preschool with a specific educational philosophy. Others may choose a school-based program or care provided by a trusted relative.
That is why a mixed-delivery system is so important. It ensures families have access to a variety of high-quality options rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
A mixed-delivery system is not one program—it is the entire child care ecosystem across Marin County. It recognizes that every part of the system has a vital role to play and that families deserve the ability to choose the setting that best meets the needs of their children while allowing parents to work, attend school, or pursue training.
When we invest in a mixed-delivery system, we strengthen every part of the early childhood infrastructure, preserve parental choice, and build a child care system that is flexible, equitable, and responsive to the needs of Marin's families and workforce. Child care vouchers are essential in supporting parental choice and the mixed delivery system and providing a economically viable option for families.

***********************************
