Marin Green Business Spotlight: Equator Coffees Recertified ☕

We are excited to share that the Equator Coffees roastery in San Rafael has recertified as a Marin Green Business! As a recognized leader in environmental responsibility and values-driven business, their roastery continues to be a valuable business in our sustainability certification program.

As a B-Corp certified business, the team at Equator approaches every aspect of their operations as an opportunity for sustainability. A few notable examples: they invested in energy-efficient Loring Smart Roasters, which reduce natural gas usage by 80% compared to traditional drum roasters, and they recently began printing on their recycled packaging with an innovative algae-based ink that further reduces their emissions. Equator Coffees also partners with other Certified Green businesses and organizations, contributing to a strong local network of values-aligned businesses.

We are grateful to have inspiring businesses in the Marin Green Business Program. This recertification can give you extra confidence in supporting a sustainable company next time you're picking up coffee beans or looking for your caffeine fix!

Marin Green Business Spotlight: 🛋️

Make It Home recently recertified as a Marin Green Business, continuing its commitment to sustainability, reuse, and community support. This nonprofit provides gently used furniture and household goods to newly-housed foster kids, formerly homeless families and individuals who would otherwise move into an empty apartment — while keeping usable furnishings out of the landfill. Just last year they diverted more than 22,000 items, or nearly 1.5 million pounds, from the landfill! They also minimize the impact of their warehouse operations through energy and water conservation, sustainable purchasing practices, and by partnering with other green businesses. We are so grateful to have Make It Home in Marin and as part of the Green Business Network!

This video highlights their Re*New Upholstery Program and how it relates to the Certified Green practices. Reach out to to learn more and find their Green Business listing at Search.GreenBusinessCA.org!

We're wrapping up with another committed Marin Green Business: Mother Nature's Cleaning

From carpets and rugs to upholstery and mattresses, this family-owned local business has been certified green for 10 years, providing professional cleaning services with a strong commitment to both environment and community health. In their own words, "At Mother Nature’s Cleaning, sustainability means caring for our community, our team, and every home as if it were our own. We’re proud to use the same natural, non-toxic products and responsible practices we trust with our own families, while investing in a company culture rooted in health, respect, and a more sustainable Marin." On top of that, cleaning and keeping what you have rather than buying new is powerful climate action!

Small Business Week may be coming to a close, but the impact of Marin’s small businesses continues year-round. These businesses are shaping a more resilient, sustainable community, and they rely on local support to keep that momentum going. We invite you to celebrate Small Businesses this weekend and beyond! Check out Mother Nature's Cleaning and other local certified green businesses at Search.GreenBusinessCA.org.

For day 3 of our series, we're celebrating a Marin Green Business that is helping power a cleaner, more resilient future: SolarCraft!

This local employee-opened company has been serving homes and businesses across the North Bay for over 40 years with solar, battery storage, EV charging, and heat pump HVAC installation. Behind the scenes, SolarCraft employees work to minimize the impact of their operations and office in Novato through verified green business practices.

As they put it: “We’re proud to make clean energy accessible while building a more resilient future for our local community. From solar energy to battery backup, we’re helping North Bay homes stay powered and sustainable.” ☀️

We appreciate the work our Certified Green Businesses do to reduce GHG emissions, both inside the office and for the community at large! You can find SolarCraft and other businesses making an impact at Search.GreenBusinessCA.org.
