These Coffee with a Cop events are a great way to put a name to the badge of those staff members who may respond to calls for service around your home or place of work.

This afternoon, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the for the annual Torch Run. With our County partners from we accepted the torch, brought in by and ran from our office and headed to where we passed the torch off to their staff. The Marin County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team (SRT) participated in a regional training exercise this weekend, hosted by The event was focused on tactical team response to critical incidents throughout the North Bay and allowed Teams to get exposure to various skillsets and training opportunities that otherwise would be difficult to put together. The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office is an amazing host and put together a fantastic day of scenarios and drills to build experience and utilize various training aids and equipment.

Marin SRT was able to participate in a total of 10 different skill-based exercises, including multiple scenarios, long-line below Sonoma Sheriff's Henry 1 helicopter, a physical agility course and a shooting competition where our Team won Top Shot.

We are grateful for the continued partnership with all the participating agencies and congrats to the Teams who did so well at the event.

Each year the Marin County Sheriff's Office honors the brave men and women who have lost their lives in the line of duty. We are proud to celebrate each year with members of our partner agencies throughout the County and remember those locally and nationally who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

We will always remember our fallen, Deputies Jim Mathieson (EOW 7/19/2011) and Ryan Zirkle (EOW 3/15/2018).

We are proud to announce that another group of students completed our annual Youth Academy, in partnership with the Marin County Office of Education.

This program is 9 weeks long, and teaches students different aspects of law enforcement and the Sheriff's Office. This program allows each student to get to know Deputies on a more human-level and better understand various facets of this profession.

SOUTHERN MARIN BIKE THIEF ARRESTED

During the month of January 2026, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office investigated a series of e-bike thefts from the Tam Valley area of Southern Marin. In the month of January alone, four residents of Tam Valley reported their e-bikes had been stolen from the front of their houses or car ports. A video of one of thefts was obtained that provided a suspect vehicle description.

The suspect vehicle was determined to be a rental vehicle being utilized as an Amazon delivery truck. Flock Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) were able to place the truck around the victim locations in Tam Valley. Through Investigation, the driver of the truck was identified as Julio Cervantes, 30, Richmond. Cervantes had a passenger with him during the alleged thefts. The passenger is currently unidentified.

On April 30, 2026, Detectives with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Cervantes’ residence in Richmond. Cervantes was contacted at the residence at placed under arrest for three of the alleged bike thefts. Multiple bicycle frames were seized from the residence. One of them was confirmed to belong to a victim in Tam Valley.

Cervantes was booked into the Marin County Jail for multiple counts of Grand Theft and Conspiracy. He is being held on $10,000 bail. This case remains under investigation.

On Wednesday, April 29th the Sheriff's Office welcomed a few new family members.

Deputy E. Ramirez comes to us after serving the Vacaville Police Department for over 25 years where he held multiple specialty assignments. Dep Ramirez is excited about the next phase of his career with MCSO.

Deputy B. Wilmott is a Marin native and has been serving as a Police Officer with Tiburon Police Department prior to joining our ranks. Dep Wilmott brings years of experience along with her as she makes this big career move.

Communications Dispatch Trainee G. Hughes grew up in the North Bay and comes from a Law Enforcement family. CDT Hughes is looking forward to taking his own path with MCSO as our newest dispatcher.

MARIN SPECIALIZED INVESTIGATIVE UNIT ARRESTS SUSPECT IN DRUG SALES. SEIZES LARGE QUANTITIES OF SUSPECTED NARCOTICS, CASH, AND FI****MS.

During the month of February 2026, the Marin Specialized Investigative Unit (SIU) initiated an investigation involving a suspect selling narcotics within the County of Marin. The suspect, identified as Shaquille Hewitt, 32, Sacramento, sold suspected co***ne, M**A, and Psilocybin Mushrooms to undercover SIU Detectives on three separate occasions. Each transaction took place within the County of Marin.

Throughout the course of the investigation, Detectives were able to obtain search warrants for Hewitt’s residence in Sacramento, and a storage unit, belonging to Hewitt in Roseville.

On April 29, 2026, SIU Detectives arrested Hewitt at his residence in Sacramento and executed search warrants in relation to this case. Between Hewitt’s residence and his storage unit, Detectives seized approximately 1.53 pounds of suspected co***ne, 1.22 pounds of suspected M**A, 15 suspected fentanyl pills, and smaller amounts of other various illicit drugs. Detectives also seized 6 fi****ms, including one manipulated to be fully automatic with a suppressor, illegal high-capacity magazines, and approximately $197,000 in cash.

Hewitt was transported to Marin County where he was booked into the Marin County Jail on the following charges:
11351 H&S (4 counts) Possession for Sales of Narcotics
11352 H&S (4 counts) Transport/Sell Narcotics
11378 H&S (2 counts) Possession for Sales of Narcotics
11379 H&S Transport/Sell Narcotics
32310 PC Making/Importing/Lending/Selling Illegal High-Capacity Magazine

Hewitt remains in custody at the Marin County Jail where he is being held on $100,000 bail. This case is still under investigation.
