Most Marin kids just get to show up.

For sports. For camp. For music lessons. For a summer adventure. Their parents say "yes."

For children in foster care, it's not that simple.

Even small barriers like team fees, equipment, camp tuition, or travel expenses can stand in the way. Our Opportunity Project and Summer Fun grants allow children in foster care to say "yes" to the same experiences as their peers--quickly, when it matters most.

Because every child deserves to participate, belong, and just be a kid.

As Foster Care Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has said **YES** to supporting children and youth in foster care.

Whether you have opened your home, volunteered your time, donated resources, mentored a young person, or helped spread awareness, you are part of the village that makes a difference.

As we near the end of Foster Care Awareness Month, we would like to shine a light on one of the programs that helps children in foster care simply be kids: our Opportunity Project. 💙

Foster youth can participate in extracurricular activities and use these grants to cover things like:

⚾ Sports equipment & team fees
🎵 Music lessons or instruments
🎨 Creative programs
🏕 Camps & enrichment opportunities

These experiences build confidence, connection, and joy — and help create a sense of normalcy during difficult times.

None of this is possible without the generosity of our community.

One week later, and we’re still glowing from the magic of Glitter & Groove ✨💛

Because of this incredible community, we raised more than $200,000 to support Marin’s foster youth.

Over the past week, we’ve been reflecting on the powerful stories shared that night — stories of resilience, compassion, and the everyday commitment of foster parents who continue to show up for our community’s kids.

We hope you look back on that special evening and feel inspired to make a difference, whether through advocacy, volunteering, fostering, mentorship, or donations.

The results are in....we raised over $200K for Marin’s foster youth!

🌟✨You showed up in your sequins, sparkle, and shine.
🌟✨You showed up to have a good time connecting with new and old friends.
🌟✨Most importantly, you showed up for our community’s foster kids.

Our goal was to inform you about the challenges facing the foster care community, while inspiring you with stories of hope and resilience from foster parents who are showing up and raising our community's kids every day. Most of all, we hope we motivated you to “find your lane” and help Marin Foster Care in ways that are meaningful to you.

We are seeking donations for the Community Resource Center!

Specifically, we are looking to re-stock our racks with summer clothing and shoes - clean, gently used, excellent condition. 🌼🌸 No winter clothing please.

👗Really in need of: 3T & 4T girls -particularly shirts and shorts- and 4T & 5T boys short sleeve shirts

For Foster Care Awareness Month, we’ve been blown away by the support of our community. 💙

Bacich Elementary hosted a “Summer Fun” drive for our foster youth and families, while Kent Middle School’s leadership team organized a bake sale, along with a clothing and shoe drive.

Teaching kids empathy and showing them meaningful ways to support other children in need is such a powerful gift. We’re so grateful to these students, families, and school communities for showing up with compassion and generosity for local foster youth.

💛May is Foster Care Awareness Month - There are so many ways to support Marin's foster care community.✨

🍎Shop and buy a bag of groceries to support transition age foster youth. An easy way to support youth as they launch their independence.

🍔Tomorrow! Have dinner out on Give Back Tuesday from 5-9 pm. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to MFCA. Get your burger and brews on! Fairfax Brewing is at 765 Center Blvd in Fairfax.

🌼Volunteer! We have opportunities to help deliver gifts/meals to foster families this month. This Friday, May 8th between 10 am and 1 pm and Wednesday, May 20th between 3:30 and 5:30 pm. If you're available, email [email protected].
