Center for Domestic Peace

Center for Domestic Peace C4DP mobilizes individuals & communities to transform our world so DV no longer exists.

Center for Domestic Peace was founded in 1977 by a group of visionary women operating under the name Marin Abused Women’s Services (MAWS). Since then, we have helped thousands of women, children, and men to end the violence and to achieve safe, productive lives. MAWS started as a volunteer effort with women being sent to private homes for safety. Over the years, we have grown to provide a wide arr

ay of services, which include:

- 24/7 English & Spanish & Youth hotlines
- Safety planning
- Emergency shelter
-Transitional housing
-Drop-in support groups
- Domestic violence response teams
- Information and referrals
-Advocacy, court accompaniment, and referrals
-Group therapy for survivor parents and their children
-Classes and training for men and women to learn how to stop their violence
- Community education and prevention programs for youth and adults
- Technical assistance and training for local, state, and national groups
- Policy development

To better reflect the wide range of our current and future work, in October 2010 we adopted a new name – Center for Domestic Peace – where MAWS continues to find its home. Center for Domestic Peace has accomplished amazing things since 1977 and is known as a leader in the field of domestic violence prevention.

Survivors deserve consistent, life-saving support—without interruption. Right now, critical funding delays are putting those services at risk.

At Center for Domestic Peace, we know how essential these resources are for safety, healing, and hope.

When funding is delayed, programs are left without the resources needed to operate — putting survivors' safety and stability at risk.

Domestic violence doesn’t end when a relationship ends. Its impact can linger - in the body, in sleep, in trust, and in how a person moves through the world. This is a mental health reality for survivors that too often goes unspoken, even during Mental Health Awareness Month.

At the Center for Domestic Peace, we offer therapy, support groups, and crisis support because we understand that surviving and healing are not the same—and both deserve care, time, and compassion.

Wherever you are in your journey, please know that support is here. 24/7 Hotline: 415-924-6616

Technology is part of our daily lives—and for many survivors, staying connected online is essential for access to support, resources, and community. At the same time, technology can be misused by abusive partners to monitor, manipulate, or control.

We created this Digital Safety Guide to offer practical, accessible tools that help survivors stay safer while remaining connected. Everyone deserves to use technology in ways that support their safety, autonomy, and well-being.
