Looking for a getaway? On December 6, 2025, take a little drive to party with a purpose at the San Saba Strong Fest!
San Saba, at the top of the Texas Hill Country, is nestled among countless pecan orchards, & known as the “Pecan Capital of the World”. This small quaint and charming community sustained devastating damage during the recent July 4 & July 13 floodings. A group of awesome individuals has organized a "fun time" event to assist the victims of those floods. Mark your calendars and come support this cause to help the San Saba County flood victims on their long road to recovery.

From Craig Whiting:

As we work through the damage and disruption caused by the flooding in San Saba County we at First Baptist Church are coordinating volunteers to help clear debris and repair fences for ranchers in our county. Many times this is impacting the ranchers ability to care for their livestock.

If you can help with hands or equipment, please text this number:

833-235-0453.

If you have been impacted and need flood relief help, you can also text your information to the above number.

As the days fly on by, away from the flooding and towards the drying out process, we need to continually remind ourselves and those around us of what is available in San Saba County. There are many ready to jump into this phase that we call RECOVERY. For those of us who were impacted by the flooding, you need to remember to fill out the iSTAT survey. These entries are compiled into a list that allows Emergency Management officials to share survivors’ information with the volunteers coming into the County to help US with the recovery process. You, also, need to remember that FEMA is still operating the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) up at the San Saba Civic Center (1190 S. Thomas Stewart Dr, San Saba, TX 76877. There you can find help from FEMA, the Texas Department of Insurance, the Small Business Administration, the Health and Human Services Commission, and AgriLife. They are all here to help YOU understand the options that you have. This is the face-to-face time you have been asking for. And they can help you by answering your questions and helping you navigate this thing we call a Federally Declared Disaster.
AND today (Friday) from 6-9pm, and tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am to 2pm, St. Mary’s Catholic Church will host a Multi-Agency Resource Fair. You will be able to meet local and national groups that can offer different disaster relief-related information and services. All disaster survivors are encouraged to come out and check out what is available…even if you have been to the DRC and spoken with all those groups.
It is safe to say that San Saba County has been extremely blessed with so many helping hands coming in from across the State and from around the nation. They quickly came to help those of us who were impacted by the historic flooding events. Many individuals, organizations, and local and State officials have begun the timeframe that we will come to know as the Long Term Recovery Process. This starts with the formation of a Long Term Recovery Group, who are tasked to ensure that the coordination of disaster-related unmet needs are addressed for the whole community.

Please take the time to read this and then pass it on to your family or friends who might need to know:
Many of you know that I, Marsha Hardy, have been the County Emergency Management Coordinator for a lot of years. Multiple times we have had FEMA assistance for our roads and bridges. For the first time, since 2000, we are involved in Individual Assistance (IA) along with Public Assistance (PA). We have set up help for everyone who has been affected by the flooding that begin on the July 4th weekend. It’s called the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) up at the Civic Center and beginning on Saturday, July 17th, it will be operational from 8am until 7pm daily.
As a few of you know, our home was flooded during the first flood but thankfully not the second one. We are displaced as volunteer crews try to rehab our place and prepare it for the sub-tropical bleach to make sure that one day we will be safe to return home.
A few of us were asked to be a soft opening lot to make sure that all of the electronics, computers and so on would be ready for all of you to go up and get registered within the FEMA process!
I am here to tell you that they are extremely helpful. Even if you don't have a lot of your paperwork, the conversation that you share WILL HELP to get you into the system and to get assistance!
Believe me, this is the place you want to be at to begin to make all of this better! And yes, if English is not your first language, they can still help you!!

Just wanted to let you know that due to all the necessary activity at the First Baptist Church and all the efforts to assist our county, we will NOT be having a Blood Drive as planned on Tuesday July 22nd! ❤️
