🌟 HONORING EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP 🌟

The staff and officers at the TDCJ San Saba Unit want to extend our deepest gratitude to an incredible leader, mentor, and friend: Warden Rickey Sanders, he has finally transitioned to his new role at the Garza East Unit.

To say he has been a pleasure to work for is an understatement. If you ask anyone at San Saba, they’ll tell you the exact same thing: this man always has your back. 🤝

Warden Sanders has been a guiding light in tough times, a motivator who pushes us to be better every day, and a leader who always brings a positive attitude and a truly contagious smile when we need it most. (And don't worry, Warden—even here in Texas, we won't hold the fact that you’re a die-hard San Francisco 49ers fan against you! 🏈😂)

His impact goes far beyond staff morale. Under his exceptional vision, our entire environment has transformed. Through firm fairness, structured programs, and unwavering dedication, he has driven a noticeable difference across the unit. We are better officers, and our unit is a safer, more secure environment because of him.

What does freedom mean to you? The inmates at the San Saba Unit explored this question by collaborating on a beautiful "Community Freedom Quilt" for the library bulletin board. Each pre-made square features unique writings and illustrations, allowing the participants to build teamwork skills while honoring the rich history of the Emancipation Proclamation and Juneteenth.
