Hearst Castle Welcome to Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument (also known as Hearst Castle)! Any content posted may be subject to public disclosure upon request.

La Cuesta Encantada, "The Enchanted Hill" high above the ocean at San Simeon, was conceived by two extraordinary individuals, William Randolph Hearst and architect Julia Morgan. Their collaboration, which began in 1919 and continued for 28 years, transformed an informal hilltop campsite into the world-famous estate best known as Hearst Castle: a magnificent 115-room main house plus guesthouses, po

ols, and 8 acres of cultivated gardens.

📚🏰 Let’s celebrate World Read-Aloud day with Hearst Castle on February 4, 2026.

Are your students curious about how buildings come to life? Did you know it took a team of skilled workers 28 years to build Hearst Castle?

To celebrate World Read-Aloud Day, we’re bringing stories off the page and into the real world. With the help of an Hearst Castle guide, Elaine, students will enjoy a read-aloud of How a House Is Built by Gail Gibbons, exploring the basics of design, construction, and how big ideas become even bigger structures.

Then the fun really begins! We’ll take what we’ve learned and apply it directly to Hearst Castle as we explore the house and the iconic Neptune Pool—connecting the story to a place that sparks curiosity and awe.

This engaging program weaves in STEAM concepts like teamwork, planning, creativity, and imagination, making it perfect for students, families, educators, and curious minds of all ages.
