Sunday morning at 2:53 am we were dispatched to 264 Meadow St for a reported porch fire spreading to the house. At 2:55 dispatch started a first alarm assignment, this brought in an engine from Ossipee Corner, tankers from Acton and Wolfeboro, Milton’s tower and Center Ossipee’s squad for RIT along with a cover engine from Effingham. Responding from Wakefield were Car 1, Rescue 1, Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 4, and Tank 2.

2:56 am PD arrived and reported the fire into the rafters and the building evacuated.

2:58 am Engine 4 arrived on scene reporting heavy fire on the A side of the building.

3:04 am Command reports the bulk of the fire knocked down. Request first alarm companies continue.

3:05 am Command reports the hydrant across the street is not functional. Tankers needed to assist with water supply.

3:45 am Secondary search of the second floor complete.

4:12 am Command reports under control. Fire out.

4:26 am mutual aid released.

5:06 am cover truck released.

5:42 am Fire Marshal’s Office on scene.

6:54 am *Additional Call* Medical Aid on Cherry Hill Dr.

8:19 all companies and the Fire Marshal clear of the scene.

As always, we would like to thank the dispatchers at Carrol County, Wakefield Police Department, Ossipee Corner Fire Department, Center Ossipee Fire Rescue, Wolfeboro Fire-Rescue Department, Milton Fire-Rescue, Acton Fire-Rescue -Acton, Maine, Effingham NH Fire/Rescue, and all of the responders from Wakefield.

⚠️ update on they hydrant ⚠️
A hydrant not working seems to have created some chatter (hey glad you read our post!). But it was a mechanical issue with a hydrant that just went in a couple of years ago. We place no blame. We do not maintain them, the Sanbornville water precinct maintains them. However, this could have happened anytime to any hydrant. We check and run equipment on our apparatus all the time, sometimes it fails when we go to use it on a call. We adapt and overcome just like we did at this fire.

Huggins Hospital has a great team that we work with often! Congratulations!

Huggins Hospital has been recognized as one of the "100 Critical Access Hospitals to Know" by Becker's Hospital Review! We are the only Critical Access Hospital in NH and one of only six in New England to earn this national recognition! According to Becker's, this recognition places Huggins Hospital among a select group of hospitals that are setting the standard for rural healthcare - organizations known for expanding access to care, strengthening services close to home and improving the health of their communities.

The Becker’s 2026 honor continues a longstanding tradition of national recognition for Huggins Hospital. Over the years, our organization, our leadership and our individual staff members have been acknowledged for excellence in quality and leadership, demonstrating a consistent commitment to workforce culture and to our patients. Being named to Becker’s “100 Critical Access Hospitals to Know” list reflects the consistent, behind-the-scenes work of delivering reliable care and the continued trust and support from donors, patients and the Huggins Hospital community.

Thank you for celebrating with us! You can find the link to the full story in the comments below.

We are pleased to announce the purchase of a new rescue pumper! This week we found out we were the recipients of a $250,000 grant! We thank FF Kerry Brown who took the bull by the horns with this grant and located the engine for us. Kerry was assisted by Lt Stephen McMullen and Chief Todd Nason and supported by the board of selectmen and town administrator.

This truck will be replacing Engine 2, which is a 2006 HME and was in need of engine work and body work (likely 10’s of thousands in work).

The new engine is a rescue pumper made by
E-One and will be delivered in a few weeks! Thank you to Greenwood Emergency Vehicles for working with us on this!

This purchase was a no brainer for us. It’s built and ready to go and at a price of $750,000 and no wait time, we couldn’t say no! The funds not covered by the grant are already in our CIP Fund (capital improvement) too!

Other manufacturers were looked at as well, however prices ranged from $1 million to $1.5 million and wait times were 2-3 years to get the engine. We are grateful and extremely excited for this new engine! Thank you to all of our members who helped and supported this endeavor!

This morning our side by side project was completed. Over the last year we have picked away at this all via donations.

Side by side- 2025 Honda Pioneer 1000 ✅
Skid unit with water, pumping capabilities, and patient compartment from QTAC ✅
Side by side tracks ✅
New enclosed trailer from Proline Trailers✅

This set up will last several years as it is all from stand up companies and built to last. This will be a versatile tool for bicycle accidents on the Cotton Valley Rail Trail, injured hikers, snowmobile accidents, and brush fires.

We thank all who donated, organizations in town such as Seven Lakes Snowmobile Club and Greater Wakefield NH Lions Club who helped fundraise and donated money, and our members who helped put this all together.

Engine 1 and Forestry 1 have spent the afternoon in Milton at a first alarm brush fire.

Call members came back in and staffed central. They also handled an illegal outside fire on Pine Island Rd.

Today’s fire danger is high, with very gusty winds. There are no brush permits being issued today.
