The City of Seaside has distributed 200 soccer balls to local schools, soccer clubs, and community organizations through a nationwide FIFA initiative in collaboration with the United States Conference of Mayors.

Mayor Ian N. Oglesby also presented MPUSD Superintendent PK Diffenbaugh with a portion of the donated soccer balls for use by local students.

Afternoon and night work begins Tuesday, Sept. 8 on the Broadway Complete Streets Project.

🕒 Work hours
Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 3:00 p.m.–2:00 a.m.
Wednesday: 1:30 p.m.–2:00 a.m.

Crews will be relocating storm drains at Costa St., Ancon St. and the MLK parking lot entrance. Broadway will remain open to through traffic, with temporary lane closures in active work zones.

Please follow posted “No Parking” signs and expect some noise and lighting during night work. No MST bus stop relocations are planned this week.

Horario de esta semana:

Celebrating 24 years of service! 👏

The City of Seaside proudly recognizes Stephanie Penamante for her dedication, leadership, and service to our community and the Public Works Department.

Mayor Ian N. Oglesby presented Stephanie with a proclamation honoring her many contributions to Seaside’s parks, playgrounds, and public spaces as she prepares to retire on September 11, 2026.

Thank you, Stephanie, for 24 years of service to Seaside, and congratulations on your retirement!

Highway 1 Closure Update for Big Sur: As of 6 am tomorrow the northern closure of Highway 1 supporting Timber Fire operations will be lifted from Post Mile 56 (south of Little Sur River) to Post Mile 45 (just south of the Big Sur Post Office). The southern closure from Pacific Valley at Post Mile 16 down to Post Mile 0.0 at the Monterey/San Luis Obispo County line remains in place to support Plaskett Fire emergency response efforts. Please avoid that area and use US 101 as an alternate route.

Help keep our coast and community clean! 🌊 Join California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon at Robert’s Lake and Laguna Grande Parks in Seaside.

Volunteers can register online at SaveOurShores.org/Coastal-Cleanup or by using the QR code on the flyer. Participants are also encouraged to download the Clean Swell app to record what they collect.

🚧 Broadway Avenue construction is underway!

Underground utility relocations are underway along Broadway Avenue between General Jim Moore Boulevard and Yosemite Street as part of the Broadway Avenue Complete Streets Corridor Improvements Project.

Current utility relocation work includes:
• Costa Street
• Ancon Street
• The entrance to Martin Luther King Jr. School of the Arts

Drivers should expect lane closures in both the westbound and eastbound directions. Please allow extra travel time, use caution through the construction area, and follow posted traffic controls.
