Recently the Fire and EMS profession lost an icon Randolph Mantooth has had a lasting impact on the fire service and the paramedic profession.

He did this through his unforgettable role on Emergency! which aired on TV from 1972-1977 producing an astonishing 122 episodes, Randolph Mantooth helped introduce America to the lifesaving work of firefighters and paramedics. At a time when modern EMS was just beginning to grow, the show brought national attention to emergency medical services more specifically to Paramedics who provide ALS level care and inspired countless men and women to pursue careers in firefighting and EMS.

Many of today's firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics trace their passion for serving others back to watching Emergency!. His portrayal of dedication, professionalism, teamwork, and compassion helped shape generations of first responders who continue to answer the call every day.

Many of us at Sandstone Fire and Rescue, extend our sincere gratitude to Randolph Mantooth for being an ambassador for the fire and EMS community. His role has shaped generations of first responders and helped shine a light on a profession built on courage, service, and compassion.

Johnny Gage’s legacy lives on every time the tones sound and firefighters and EMS professionals respond to help those in need
