Another look at food storage. Key ideas:
1. Store what you like to eat.
2. Use stored foods in routine meal preparation.
3. Rotate your stock, using oldest items first and replenishing with fresh as you shop or preserve your own.
4. Don't forget to store drinking water.
5. Make sure you have an alternate way to cook - outdoor grill, camp stove, etc.

A little more on sheltering in place.
They focus on protecting against an outside bacteriolgical or chemical incident; but one could also look at it as part of routine preparedness for bad weather. A late-season ice storm can cause power outages, prevent local stores from re-stocking supplies, and could mean you can't leave your house for a couple of days. Are you prepared with food, water, fuel, medicines, and an alternate source of power? Could you retreat to a smaller area of the house and use blankets in doorways to retain heat? Do you have a way to prepare food? Something to think about....

Taking sheltering to another level - are you prepared to provide help to your friends and neighbors? The article linked below refers to befriending an elderly neighbor and helping with tasks, but what if the power goes out? A storm knocks a tree down on their porch? Taking that elderly neighbor into your home to keep them warm and safe may just avoid a tragedy. Think about it.
