Welcome Aboard!

Many people — family members, loved ones and fellow first responders — attended the swearing-in ceremony for Sandusky's newest firefighter: Ricardo "Ricky" Trevino. It occurred on Monday at City Hall.

Trevino, a Sandusky High School graduate who lives in Monroeville, has previous experience as a firefighter, working for Milan Township. He also earned his fire certification from EHOVE Career Center: https://tinyurl.com/8szd6swr

⚠️ We’re implementing a parking ban on designated Emergency Snow Streets beginning at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, ahead of the winter storm expected this weekend.

Please remove vehicles from emergency snow streets so crews can plow safely and efficiently. Vehicles left on snow streets during the ban may be ticketed or towed.

❄️ City crews are currently preparing for snow removal operations. As a reminder, crews work around the clock to keep emergency snow streets passable throughout the snow event. Once the storm ends and the main corridors are clear, our crews will then move on to begin clearing side streets. If you are traveling, please ensure you give plows plenty of room. We appreciate your patience.

🧂Sandusky is not currently experience a salt shortage, but we are continuing to monitor the situation.

🚰 Our water system is operating normally. Crews are monitoring conditions and continue work at the Sandusky Bay water intake, including installing additional pipes and pumps to help maintain water flow during difficult winter conditions. Big Island Water Works is working to keep storage tanks and basins as full as possible in the coming days to provide added system capacity. If any issues arise, we’ll share updates promptly.

⛪ The Warming Center at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church has extended their operations through Monday morning. Their hours are 7pm-7am

🟢🚰 Update 1/21/26 1:15 PM: Water use restrictions for Sandusky and Erie County have been lifted. www.CityofSandusky.com/Alert

_____
⚠️Update: For the past 12 hours, City of Sandusky Water, Sewer, and Fire Department crews have been working continuously to break through heavy ice and restore water flow at the intake pipes serving the Big Island Water Works plant. Due to the current critical conditions, the City is not taking in new raw water at this time, and all water use is being supplied from water already stored at the plant.

Water use restrictions remain in place, and residents in Sandusky and Erie County are asked to continue reducing non-essential water use to help extend available supply. Crews are actively working on multiple solutions in an effort to restore water flow as soon as possible.

While crews are hopeful that conditions will improve, it is possible that the plant’s stored water supply could be exhausted before intake flow is restored. If that occurs, the City will immediately communicate next steps and any additional actions residents may need to take.

There is no issue with water quality, and the water currently remains safe to drink

Thank you to everyone who is helping reduce water use. City staff will continue working around the clock and will share additional updates as conditions change.
Updates are all posted at https://cityofsandusky.com/alert_detail.php.
