π Hurricane Season Begins Today π
June 1 marks the start of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season. As a coastal community, it's important for Sandwich residents to take time now to prepare before a storm threatens our area.
According to NOAA's 2026 hurricane outlook, forecasters are predicting:
β’ 8β14 named storms
β’ 3β6 hurricanes
While no one can predict exactly where storms will track, preparedness is something we can all control.
β
Know your evacuation zone and local evacuation routes.
β
Assemble or update your emergency supply kit, including flashlights, batteries, medications, important documents, and other essentials.
β
Review your family emergency plan so everyone knows how to communicate and where to go during an emergency.
β
Check emergency equipment such as generators and storm shutters to ensure they are in working order.
β
Review your insurance policies to confirm you have adequate coverage.
β
Understand the difference between hurricane watches and warnings so you can respond appropriately when severe weather threatens.
