πŸŒ€ Hurricane Season Begins Today πŸŒ€

June 1 marks the start of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season. As a coastal community, it's important for Sandwich residents to take time now to prepare before a storm threatens our area.

According to NOAA's 2026 hurricane outlook, forecasters are predicting:
β€’ 8–14 named storms
β€’ 3–6 hurricanes

While no one can predict exactly where storms will track, preparedness is something we can all control.

βœ… Know your evacuation zone and local evacuation routes.
βœ… Assemble or update your emergency supply kit, including flashlights, batteries, medications, important documents, and other essentials.
βœ… Review your family emergency plan so everyone knows how to communicate and where to go during an emergency.
βœ… Check emergency equipment such as generators and storm shutters to ensure they are in working order.
βœ… Review your insurance policies to confirm you have adequate coverage.
βœ… Understand the difference between hurricane watches and warnings so you can respond appropriately when severe weather threatens.

The Sandwich Office of Emergency Management encourages all residents to take a few simple steps today to help ensure they are ready for whatever this hurricane season may bring. For more information, please visit our webpage: https://www.sandwichmass.org/1574/Emergency-Management

To receive emergency notifications from the Town of Sandwich, please sign up for the CodeRED alert system online at https://accountportal.onsolve.net/sandwichmass OR by texting SANDWICHMASS to 24639

Preparedness starts before the forecast. Stay informed, make a plan, and be ready.
