Sandwich Citizens Police Academy - classes and alumni. Who are we? We are the graduates of the Sandwich Citizens Police Academy.
We volunteer our time to support community activities. The Sandwich Citizens Police Academy provides residents of Sandwich an opportunity to learn about their local police department. Although it won’t make them police officers, the academy gives citizens insight into the operations of the police department. Because the academy is conducted by Sandwich police officers, classes address the issues a
nd challenges that face our town. The Citizens Police Academy is not unique to Sandwich; it's part of a nation-wide Community Policing Initiative. Citizens Academies are conducted by police departments around the country. Locally, the towns of Yarmouth and Barnstable have their own citizen’s academies.

On Saturday, August 10, seven SCPAA volunteers moved the Emergency Management office from the Human Resources Building to the new office at the Police headquarters.
The Sandwich Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association provided 13 volunteers to the (almost final) clean-out of the old Sandwich Police Department on Route 6A. After spending 6 hours hauling heavy boxes up and down stairs, loading trucks and trailers, and doing a final cleaning, they headed to the new Police Department and spent another 2 hours unloading those heavy boxes. They were led by Deputy Chief Mike Nurse, and with direction from IT Department’s David McNeaney, and Administrative Assistant Alison Husted among others. By 4:00 pm it was a very hot, exhausted, and sore - but satisfied - group!
Thank you to the hard-working team: Dennis Driscoll, Sue Driscoll, Jerry Fortin, Charlie Holden, Norm Hollis, Andrew Jones, Jim Leave, Mike Miller, Carey Mullen, Jeanne Nichols David Rice, Ted Scribner and Sue Vibberts, for your service to the Town in this demanding exercise. And a special thanks to Fannie Nurse, who not only assisted in the work but provided cupcakes to help get us through the day!
New Building
In the near future the we will be holding a ribbon cutting and opening ceremony at the new Police Station. We will offer tours of the facility during this time.
Please stay tuned for the details.
July 4th
There will be a number of traffic detours over July 4th in Sandwich which will support of our 5K Fun Run, parade, band stand concert and fireworks. The Town Hall area will be impacted by these road closures during various times of the morning and evening hours.
As in past years, we will be deploying additional officers in vehicles and ATVs to support our public safety plans. While we encourage everyone to enjoy the day, please know that fireworks are illegal. Additionally, parking a vehicle in a manner which blocks a road or prevents emergency vehicle passage may result in the vehicle being towed.
Stay safe and enjoy
