MAY 17

A local woman reported receiving perceived threats after selling a fire pit online that the buyer claimed was defective. After she stated the sale was final, the buyer replied, “We’ll see what happens.” She was advised to contact SPD if the buyer appeared at her residence.
While on routine patrol, an officer observed a vehicle cross over the center line into his lane before correcting back into its own lane. That officer whipped a uey and initiated a motor vehicle stop. After an investigation, Brandon Kettell of Osterville arrested for the following:

90/24I Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol

MAY 18

Multiple calls for kids joy riding in a shopping cart. On heavily trafficked roadways. Very far from any supermarket or retailer.

A local coffee shop called to request assistance with an employee who showed up for work highly intoxicated. That man was taken into protective custody and allowed to try to arrange for a ride home.

Crisis intervention was requested for a child engaging in self-harm behaviors. That subject as brought to the hospital

MAY 19

A caller reported her neighbor was singing loudly, disturbing her sleep. It was 4:30 am. Responding officers could not locate the crooner.

A Sandwich man is being summonsed to court after he was caught on camera rummaging through a boat that did not belong to him. That individual had been the subject of other calls of suspicious behavior. He is being charged with:
266/120 Misdemeanor Trespassing
266/18/E Felony Breaking and Entering in the Daytime

MAY 20

A caller reported receiving an Amazon package that appeared to have been opened. Although nothing was missing, she suspected a neighbor may have tampered with it. Officers spoke with the neighbor, who stated they had not received or opened the package. No evidence of tampering or mail theft was found.

Officers assisted a child who was engaging in self-harm behaviors. That juvenile was transported to the hospital by Sandwich Fire.

MAY 20

Officers were dispatched to a medical facility after a woman made disturbing comments about herself and her children. Upon arrival it was determined she was in crisis. An adult child was contacted and confirmed she lived alone. That subject was brought to the hospital.

An elderly woman reported a suspicious incident after her key would not work in the lock and she observed what she believed to be a credit card lodged in the door. Officers investigated and determined there was no credit card present; the object observed was the strike plate for the lock. No evidence was found of any attempted forced entry or tampering.

MAY 21

Officers assisted a family who could not locate an elder. That subject was found and transported to the hospital. The family was referred to Officer Bondarek for assistance.

Officers took in a double feature when called to the Heritage Theaters for two would be moviegoers harassing other patrons. Upon arrival they located an East Falmouth couple who were clearly intoxicated. Both were brought to the station under protective custody.

MAY 22

Officers responded to an after-midnight complaint regarding dogs barking incessantly and disturbing the peace in a neighborhood. Officers located the dogs and contacted the owner by phone, learning they were currently out of the country but had neighbors checking on the animals. Those neighbors were contacted and advised they would address the issue and keep the dogs quiet overnight.

Crisis intervention was initiated for an individual who was engaging in self-harm. That subject was brought to the hospital.

A call was received for a possible altercation at a local residence. Officers made contact and all parties admitted to some heated dialogue but nothing physical. The involved agreed to stay apart for the evening.

A call from a delivery driver reporting concern for an individual in crisis resulted in the arrest of a local man. Officers responded to a residence where they located a man asleep, partially inside and partially outside of a vehicle. Following an investigation, David Luongo of Forestdale was arrested for the following:
269/10/K Carrying a Firearm without a License, 2nd Offense
269/11C/A Defacing A Firearm Serial Number
269/10/TT Possessing Ammunition without an FID Card
269/10H Carrying a Firearm while Intoxicated
94C/34/A Possession of a Class A Drug

Officers were dispatched to a local beach for reports of a bonfire gathering and possible fight. Upon arrival, large numbers of juveniles scattered from the area. Officers were able to detain several and contacted parents for safe rides home. One person was evaluated for an eye injury after fireworks were reportedly thrown into the fire, causing an explosion. Incidents such as this are among the reasons beach parking lots are closed early during the July 4th weekend. So keep that in mind when the complaining starts.

MAY 23

Lots of “failure to stop” reports in Sandwich and other local communities this weekend.

Officers assisted a family with elder issues. Officer Bondarek was advised and will be making contact.

Officers mediated a disagreement between a couple. Both stated the incident was all verbal and were on their way.

And that disagreement continued down into the village. A caller reported a couple parked in front of their home, arguing. Officers responded and provided a courtesy ride home to the passenger to cool off for the night.

A 20 year old woman was having dinner with her family. She left the table to use the facilities and she was sexually attacked by a 70 year old man in the hallway. Her bravery to confront him in Court in front of a jury was exemplary. Thank you to my team and police investigators for believing in her and delivering justice.

MAY 10

Crisis intervention was requested for an individual who was being combative with caregivers. That subject was brought to the hospital.

A call was received for a suspicious individual parked in a parking lot for 10 minutes at an ATM that was not operational. Officers responded -the sus party was the cleaner.

A caller reported more incidents of kids on e-bikes playing ding d**g ditch.

MAY 11

A caller reported a car in the road, citing it as a hazard. Officers checked it out, the vehicle was off the road and not a hazard.

The door to door, “I have extra asphalt” bandits are back at it. If one knocks on your door, just say, “no” and call the Popo.

A caller reported a dirt bike speeding on a public way, almost striking a dog. Officers spoke to the rider.

And that hazardous car was called in again. It was still not a hazard but the owner offered to move it. That was very much appreciated.

MAY 12

Crisis intervention was initiated for an individual at the request of family members. That subject was brought to the hospital.

A local man trying to “do it right for less” ended up losing a lot more after scammers spoofed his home improvement store gift card and drained the balance. The victim contacted the Arizona store where the purchases were made, but while the retailer may know home improvement, it offered little guidance for someone dealing with fraud. The customer was ultimately directed to the company’s fraud department and advised to file a report with Sandwich Police. The incident is under investigation.

MAY 13

A local man reported his credit rating had declined and when he looked into it found someone had opened a credit card account in his name, accruing over $1600 in interest. The incident is being investigated.

A local man came into the station to file a report after a rent check he had sent to his landlord was cashed by someone other than the intended recipient.

A man with a court ordered breathalyzer came into the station when his interlock device malfunctioned and was showing he failed the test. Officers administered the test with department equipment and he was in fact, not under the influence. They provided him with documentation of proof for the RMV.

MAY 15

Officers responded to and helped de-escalate a tense family situation. Due to one of the individual’s level of intoxication, they were taken into protective custody.

MAY 16

The birds are chirping, the trees are blooming, and neighborhood drama is in full swing. Yes, spring has arrived. Sandwich Police are currently investigating a reported harassment complaint involving a resident and members of a homeowner’s association board.

An Uber driver requested a wellness check on his fare who had vacated his car then proceeded to just lay down in the driveway. Officers spoke to the rider who eventually agreed to go into the house for the evening. Maybe it’s time for a new mattress.

Yesterday, members of the Sandwich Police Department proudly participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics alongside fellow law enforcement agencies across Cape Cod.

Each department carried the torch through their towns to help raise awareness and support for the incredible athletes of Special Olympics. We were honored to do our part and continue this meaningful tradition of unity, teamwork, and community support.

APRIL 26

A New Bedford teen is being summonsed to court after a violent crash on Route 130. A dashboard video was obtained which showed the car reaching speeds of over 100 MPH. That teen is being charged with the following:
90/17/E Speeding at a Rate of Speed Greater than Reasonable and Proper
89/4A Marked Lane Violation
90/24/E Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle

A call was received for individuals on motorbikes riding on the Ridge Club golf course. Those riders were gone when officers arrived.

A local business owner had words with a skateboarder who was riding while waiting for a food order at a local sandwich shop. The owner did not want him operating in his parking lot for safety and business reasons. That rider received his food and left voluntarily.

Officers assisted DCF with a home visit.

APRIL 27

A caller reported that two large packages had been stolen from her front steps. During a follow-up call, however, the reporting party realized the parcels had not been stolen at all. They were not meant for her. The delivery driver had retrieved the packages to correct the mistake, turning the porch piracy investigation into a case of mistaken delivery.

Crisis intervention was initiated for a teen in need of assistance. That subject was brought to the hospital.

APRIL 28

A wellness check was initiated for an individual who did not report for work and was not answering their phone. Contact was made and all was well.

A caller reported an area of Dillingham Ave was blocked due to parked vehicles. The responding officer reported several cement trucks were on scene to pour a foundation and the road was in fact, passible.

APRIL 29

Officers responded to Stop and Shop for a report that a vehicle had gone missing but was found 5 minutes later in a different location, with an unknown man sitting in the driver’s seat. Officers located that man inside the market who admitted he was confused and got into the wrong vehicle. Sandwich Fire was called and that man was transported to the hospital.

APRIL 30

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle in the marsh off Route 6A. A witness reported that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, crossed over the center line, nearly causing a head-on collision. That vehicle then went airborne before landing in the marsh. On scene evidence supported those statements. After an investigation, John Callahan Cotter of East Sandwich was arrested for the following:

MAY 1

A wellness check was initiated at the request of a clinician. Officers made contact and all was well.

A woman came to the station to report that she was being targeted online by someone who created and shared fake photos depicting her holding incendiary political signs. The images have since been removed, and the incident remains under investigation.

A wellness check was requested for a juvenile. All was sell.

Police received a report of protesters on Quaker Meeting House Road. The caller stated that several individuals were jumping into traffic, disrupting the flow of vehicles and creating a traffic hazard. Upon officers’ arrival, the crowd was already dispersing.

Officers responded to the village for a report of a couple who became lost while driving from a friend’s home back to their hotel around 11:30 p.m. The pair had overshot their original destination of Hyannis and ended up in Sandwich where they discovered the sidewalks had long since rolled up for the night. Upon arrival, officers found the wife seated on a bench in front of a local shop, while her husband remained in the vehicle, fully committed to navigating by instinct, confidence, and absolutely no directions, like a modern-day Magellan. The wife reported he was ignoring her attempts to help, while the husband admitted he didn’t want to “get into it” and wasn’t exactly fluent in the vehicle’s navigation system. Officers helped get the navigation sorted out, and the couple was soon back underway and being guided by modern technology.

A call was received for an elderly man on the ground, likely intoxicated. Officers made contact with that man. Sandwich Fire was called to evaluate. That man was pc’d and released to a family member.

MAY 2

Officers responded to a 911 misdial after a young caller told dispatch that their cat had placed the call. Upon speaking with the grandmother, officers learned the child doesn’t even have a cat. Stay tuned, it’s only a matter of time before the dog eats their homework.

APRIL 19

A villager requested officers speak to trespassers utilizing metal detectors on her property. That reporting party called back and reported she had spoken to them through her Ring camera and was able to move them along.

An out of country caretaker requested a wellness check on her charge who she was unable to contact. Officers went to the home and located the subject who was unable to get up off the floor. FD was called and the man was transported to the hospital.

Officers were called to a local business for a report of a breaking and entering. After a very convoluted investigation, a store manager reviewed security footage and found the door to the establishment had not been properly secured and wind had blown it open.

APRIL 20

While on routine patrol an officer encountered a truck travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was missing both a front license plate and rear plate on the trailer it was pulling. A motor vehicle stop was initiated. After an investigation, William Heyd of Sandwich was arrested for the following:

Crisis intervention was initiated for a male subject. That individual was brought to the hospital.

APRIL 21

A caller reported a near miss collision with a juvenile on an e-bike. She requested officers speak to the youth. Officers made contact with the rider and parents.

Another erratic driver reported. Officers located the described vehicle and witnessed it drive over a curb. A motor vehicle stop was initiated. After an investigation, Alexander Thuijs of Sandwich was arrested for the following:

APRIL 22

Officers mediated a situation between a teenager and grandparents.

A report was received regarding an erratic driver on Route 6A. Officers responded and located the vehicle and observed it cross over the double yellow line. A motor vehicle stop was initiated; however, as the officer approached the driver’s side door, the operator drove away. The vehicle became stuck in traffic, allowing the officer to position his cruiser in a way that prevented further movement. After an investigation, William Mulhern of Sandwich was arrested for the following:

APRIL 23

A landscape supervisor, inspecting a job site picked up some tools he thought his crew had left behind. Meanwhile, another landscaper who had taken a landfill run came back to find his equipment missing and reported it stolen. Thankfully, it was all just a mix-up. Officers connected both parties, and the tools were returned to their rightful owner. All’s well that ends well!

Officers mediated a tense situation between two individuals arguing over Door Dash, a dead battery and a long past incident neither wanted to disclose. Both parties acknowledged the situation was all verbal in nature.

APRIL 24

A caller requested help with stopping kids from hopping her fence and playing in her yard. Officers spoke to the juveniles and parents.

While on routine patrol an officer noted a vehicle cross the fog line and drive over the dirt shoulder. A motor vehicle stop was initiated and the driver found to have a suspended license. After an investigation, Angela Campuzano of Sandwich was arrested for the following:

APRIL 25

Officers met with a couple who were receiving unwanted contact from an individual by phone and on various social media platforms.

A Great Hill couple returned from a getaway to an unwelcome sight, someone had crashed into their fence. Officers spoke to neighbors and checked various cameras. No one caught the incident on camera or witnessed any collision.

Sure sign of good weather. Multiple tickets were issued for illegal parking in Town Neck.

Just a reminder, impeding traffic, blocking driveways and parking without a placard in and adjacent to accessible spaces and fire lanes will get you ticketed or towed. If you follow proper parking protocol on public roadways, you’re Gucci.

Crisis intervention was initiative for a child threatening self-harm.

After observing a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, officers initiated a traffic stop. Upon contact, the driver immediately and aggressively expressed his displeasure and requested to be allowed to “just go home.” Following an investigation, Dennis Byrne of Sandwich was arrested for the following:
