Never let it be said that Sandy Springs Fire department doesn’t love our brothers and sisters in blue. Recently while performing yard work at station 1, one of our engineers saw a Sandy Springs PD officer who was obviously in need of life sustaining sustenance. Luckily for that officer, a kind citizen had dropped off some doughnuts that we were happy to pass along!

Recently Sandy Springs Fire and Sandy Springs PD responded to a report of a kitten trapped in the shock absorber of a car. Our personnel responded and were able to safely remove the trapped feline. The baby is recovering safely in her new home and is doing well! The new parents have created a wishlist of items if you would like to assist (in the first comment)

AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH 🗣️

Our firefighters are getting a little concerned… 👀 We’re begging you to test your smoke detectors. It takes just a few seconds to make sure they’re working when you need them the most.

It’s one button… we believe in you! 😂

Sandy Springs Fire department has numerous individuals who serve the community, and the country, outside of their normal day to day roles. Recently our Chief of EMS and Training, Patrick Flaherty, was deployed under the department of Health and Human Services to help support federal law enforcement for the 81st United Nations General Assembly in Manhattan. While in Manhattan, Chief Flaherty was also able to participate in the 25th annual Tunnel to Towers 5K charity event with his wife.

This week members of the Sandy Springs Fire tactical EMS team supported Sandy Springs SWAT during team tryouts. TEMS medics assisted by providing medical oversight and treatment, and evaluation of simulated medical care provided during scenarios. SSFD tactical medics must carry a munimum medical license of Advanced EMT, successfully complete SWAT tryouts, successfully complete a certified TEMS medical course, and complete yearly refresher training.

Last week’s training covered hose handling and deployment. Mastering fundamental skills helps ensure our personnel are ready to respond and perform under stress.

On Monday, members of the Sandy Springs SWAT tactical medic team attended a K-9 medical course hosted by members of the Armies K-9 medical corps. The class helps expand the capabilities of our tactical medics, who frequently support K-9 and other specialty teams.
