Sandy City’s Homeless Liaison Officers were created to deliver a more proactive, compassionate, and efficient approach to homelessness in our community. Realizing that enforcement alone isn’t a sustainable solution, these officers concentrate on fostering relationships, linking individuals to resources, and collaborating closely with service providers to assist those in need in finding support and stability. They regularly visit parks and public areas to maintain safety, cleanliness, and a welcoming atmosphere for all, while also interacting with individuals facing homelessness in a respectful, solution-driven manner. Their efforts strike a balance between community safety and outreach, establishing a thoughtful strategy that benefits both residents and those in search of assistance.

The Sandy City Person Crimes Unit investigates major crimes that occur in Sandy. We focus on cybercrimes, family-related crimes, and crimes against children. The detectives in this unit are specialists in conducting interviews and interrogations, gathering and connecting evidence to suspects, and drafting and executing arrest warrants for those individuals. We collaborate closely with other detectives in the valley and the District Attorney's Office to resolve these cases. They are dedicated detectives with a genuine passion for their work, and they enjoy what they do!

Today, we take a moment to remember and pay tribute to the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. Their bravery and commitment to safeguarding our freedoms will remain in our hearts forever.

As we celebrate this day with loved ones, let us also contemplate the significance of Memorial Day and the sacrifices endured by countless individuals for the principles we cherish.

From everyone at Sandy Police, we express our gratitude to our servicemen and women, both past and present, along with their families for their dedication and sacrifice.

Stay safe, and let’s honor their legacy by uniting as a strong community.

We’ve noticed an increase in minors operating e-motorcycles here in Sandy. It is important to know the difference between e-bikes and e-motorcycles and the rules for operating them to remain safe!

Electric bikes (e-bikes) are designed to assist pedaling and must meet specific limits for motor power and speed under Utah law. Some e-bikes include a throttle (Class 2), but must remain within specific speed and power limits to qualify. Many of the newer electric rides (especially with higher power/speeds) fall outside Utah’s e-bike classification.

In many cases, those are electric motorcycles which have different rules/regulations.
Electric motorcycles are typically more powerful, faster, and built differently than e-bikes.

Your ride is likely an electric motorcycle if it:
🏍️Has no operable pedals or cranks installed by the manufacturer
🏍️May use a throttle that allows the vehicle to exceed 20 mph without pedaling
🏍️Has a motor over 750 watts
🏍️Can exceed 20 mph using motor power alone
🏍️Looks and functions like a dirt bike
🏍️Utah law looks at multiple factors, including motor power, speed capability, and how the vehicle is designed and operated – not just one feature. And if it exceeds Utah’s e-bike limits, it is not an e-bike. It’s likely regulated as an off-highway vehicle (OHV) or motorcycle.

Not sure what you have? Here is a link to the Flowchart from the Utah Outdoor Recreation website that can assist you!

More power = more rules: These devices fall outside Utah’s e-bike definition and all riders must:
✅Complete an approved OHV education course before they ride.
✅Must be at least 16 years old to operate and possess a valid drivers license with motorcycle endorsement
✅Vehicle must be properly registered and insured.
✅Ride where allowed and obey all traffic laws: Electric motorcycles are not permitted on non-motorized trails, parks, sidewalks, or other pedestrian-use areas within Sandy City
✅Safety is key! Helmets and proper protective gear are essential when riding electric motorcycles.
