Sandy Police Law Enforcement Explorer Post 9550 The Sandy Police Explorer Post is a professional Law Enforcement Orientation Program for youth between the ages of 14 to 21.

The Sandy City Law Enforcement Explorer Post was started in 1976 and is chartered by the BSA. The purpose of the program is build an understanding with the youth of the community, to involve youth in police operations, and to interest them in future law enforcement careers. The program is open to anyone between the ages of 14 to 21. An application must be filled out and the candidate must attend a

n orientation meeting/interview with the Post Advisor (with a parent if under 18), and pass a background check. Explorers meet every Thursday night from 1700 to 2100 hrs for training. There are opportunity to participate in various events throughout the week. Explorers can sign-up for these events at Post Meeting. Last week, the Sandy Explorers had the opportunity to learn some basic police tactics from our officers. During the training, Explorers learned ground fighting techniques.

Hands-on training like this helps Explorers build confidence, develop problem-solving skills, and gain a better understanding of the skills officers use to safely manage challenging situations.

Congratulations to Explorers Jackman, Lambson, and Bethers!

At last week’s meeting, Explorers Jackson, Lambson, and Bethers were officially sworn in as members of the Sandy Police Explorers Program.

We are excited to welcome them to Post 9550 and look forward to watching them learn, grow, and serve alongside their fellow Explorers. The Explorer Program provides young men and women ages 14-20 with hands-on experience in law enforcement, leadership development, community service opportunities, and lifelong friendships.

Please join us in congratulating Explorer Clark on celebrating her one-year anniversary with the Sandy Explorers!

Over the past year, Explorer Clark has dedicated countless hours to training, community service, and supporting the Sandy Police Department at a variety of events. Her commitment, positive attitude, and willingness to learn have made her a valued member of our team.

Congratulations to Explorer Murray on graduating today from Bingham High School.

After high school, her plan is to begin working in corrections or a related field while gaining experience and preparing for a future career in law enforcement. Once she turns 21, she plans to apply with several police departments, attend the police academy, and work toward becoming a police officer.

Explorer Murray has been working hard toward her goals, and we are excited to see her continue pursuing a career dedicated to serving others. We wish her the best as she starts this next chapter.

At last week’s meeting, the Explorers spent time learning the importance of firearm safety rules and responsible handling while putting those skills to the test in a friendly airsoft competition.

The hands-on training gave the Explorers an opportunity to practice communication, decision making, teamwork, and safety awareness in a fun and controlled environment. A little competition may have been involved too.

Great job to everyone who participated and helped make the night both educational and entertaining.

Congratulations to Explorer Alivio on graduating from Hillcrest High School on May 27, 2026.

Although he is newer to the Explorer program, he has already shown a strong interest in law enforcement and a great attitude toward learning and growing within the program.

His future plans are to major in Criminal Justice while also serving in the United States Air Force. We are excited to see him continue working toward his goals and wish him the best in this next chapter of life.

Explorer Sgt. Rees will be graduating from Mountain Heights Academy today, May 29, 2026.

After graduation, he plans to serve an LDS mission, join the Marine Corps Reserves, and ultimately pursue a career in law enforcement.

Throughout his time in the Explorer program, Sgt. Rees has consistently demonstrated determination, maturity, and a willingness to step up when needed. We are proud of everything he has accomplished so far and look forward to seeing where his future takes him.

Congratulations to Explorer Captain Oxlaj on graduating Today,May 28, 2026 from the Academy for Math, Engineering and Science.

Her future plans are to attend college and major in psychology with a minor in kinesiology as she works toward becoming an Athletic Trainer. If plans change along the way, she is also interested in pursuing a career in corrections and eventually working toward becoming a Narcotics Officer.

We are proud of her leadership, dedication, and the example she has set within the Explorer program. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.
