πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ πŸƒ Please note that the Greenway/Endor Iron Furnace walking trail runs next to this location, but we will not impede your ability to get your steps in! We just ask that you avoid the fire apparatus working in the area of this training.

πŸ”₯ πŸ’¨ You will see smoke in this area, which includes Carbonton Road, Jefferson Davis Highway at the Carbonton Road overpass, and Old Carbonton Road - but there is no danger.

The Sanford Police Department and the Sanford Fire Department are conducting a joint investigation into a structure fire that resulted in the loss of life on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

At approximately 2:35 am on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026, members of the Fire Department and Police Department responded to 1326 Summerset Place for a reported structure fire.

Upon arrival, the Fire Department began fire suppression. While on scene Fire Department personnel located the deceased inside the residence.

Sanford Police Detectives were called to investigate the death.

The deceased was identified as Marcus Phillip Mason, 59 years old of 1326 Summerset Place.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Thank you to Central Dermatology Center, P.A. For paying us a visit last week. They provided free skin cancer screenings to our staff as part of National Firefighters Day. Due to the nature of our jobs, we experience skin cancer at a 45% higher rate than the general population. These free scans can literally help to save our lives! Thank you for supporting us!
