Join us for our May program, Sanford’s Spy in Europe: A Civil War Secret Revealed!

📆 Thursday, May 21 | 5:30 PM
📍 Sanford Museum | 520 E 1st Street

Did you know Sanford's namesake was one of Lincoln's secret weapons in Europe?

The Sanford Historical Society invites you to a fascinating presentation at the Sanford Museum exploring a side of our city's founder you’ve likely never heard. As Lincoln's Minister to Belgium, Henry Shelton Sanford built a covert intelligence network—tracking Confederate agents, lobbying foreign governments, and working tirelessly to keep Europe out of the war.

We are honored to host guest speaker David D. Perry, a retired university lecturer and renowned battlefield scholar. Having studied every major battlefield from the Civil War through both World Wars, David brings unparalleled expertise to this intriguing chapter of local history.

Come discover one of Sanford’s best-kept secrets. This event is open to the public and perfect for history enthusiasts and curious neighbors alike!
