MARCH 21st - Rosie the Riveter Day!

Today we honor the strength, resilience, and determination of the women who stepped forward during World War II to support our nation’s workforce. Known as “Rosie the Riveter,” these women took on critical roles in factories, shipyards, and industries, helping ensure mission success at home while service members fought overseas.

Their contributions reshaped the workforce and opened doors for future generations of women to serve, lead, and succeed in every field.

Rosie represents more than a moment in history. She represents perseverance, capability, and the power of stepping up when it matters most.

At Veterans Upward Bound, we recognize and appreciate the legacy of these trailblazers and the continued impact of women who serve our communities today.

We can do it. đź’Ş

Today we honor the brave military and service dogs who have served alongside our nation’s service members. These highly trained K9s have played vital roles in protecting troops, detecting explosives, conducting search and rescue missions, and supporting military operations around the world.

Their loyalty, courage, and dedication have saved countless lives. Just like the veterans they served beside, these K9s answered the call to serve with unwavering commitment.

At Veterans Upward Bound, we salute these four legged heroes and the handlers who served beside them.

Thank you to all military working dogs for your service and sacrifice.

FAFSA Tips for Veterans Using Education Benefits

Many veterans plan to use the GI Bill or VR&E benefits for school, but completing the FAFSA is still an important step. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid can unlock additional financial resources that help cover expenses beyond tuition.

Even if your education benefits pay for most of your classes, FAFSA can help with books, housing gaps, transportation, and other costs that come with being a student.

Here are a few helpful tips for veterans completing the FAFSA.

Apply Early
Submit the FAFSA as soon as the application opens. Some financial aid programs are awarded on a first come basis, so applying early increases your chances of receiving grants or additional assistance.

Report Benefits Correctly
GI Bill and most VA education benefits are not counted as taxable income on the FAFSA. This means they typically will not reduce your eligibility for federal student aid.

Independent Student Status
Most veterans qualify as independent students. This means you usually do not need to include your parents’ financial information when completing the FAFSA.

Explore Grant Opportunities
Completing the FAFSA may make you eligible for Pell Grants, state grants, and institutional scholarships. Unlike loans, grants do not have to be repaid.

Stay in Contact with Your School
Work closely with your school’s financial aid office and Veteran Services Office. They can help ensure your enrollment certification, education benefits, and financial aid all work together correctly.

Taking the time to complete the FAFSA can open the door to additional support and reduce financial stress during your academic journey.

Veterans Upward Bound can help participants navigate the FAFSA process, understand how their education benefits work with financial aid, and prepare for a successful start to college.
