🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT: Rental Scam Targeting Prospective Renters 🚨

The Sanger Police Department would like to make the public aware of a rental scam that has recently been reported and is affecting individuals searching for housing online.

Scammers are posting rental properties on platforms such as Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and other online classified sites. They advertise homes or apartments for rent and then require interested renters to send a "viewing deposit" before they are allowed to see the property. Once the money is sent, the scammer blocks the victim and all communication ends.

Protect Yourself:

✅ Be cautious of anyone requesting money before you have viewed a property in person.

✅ Verify the legitimacy of the rental listing by researching the property management company, landlord, or owner independently.

✅ Compare the listing to other rental websites to determine if the property is legitimately available.

✅ Be suspicious of requests for payment through peer-to-peer apps, gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.

✅ Trust your instincts. If the deal seems too good to be true or the process feels rushed, it may be a scam.

Remember:

Legitimate landlords and property management companies generally do not require large deposits simply to view a property. Paying hundreds of dollars—such as $700 or more—just to tour a rental should be considered a significant red flag.

If You Believe You Have Been Scammed:

📞 Contact your local law enforcement agency and report the incident.

📱 Report fraudulent listings directly to the platform where they were posted.

The housing market can be competitive, but taking a few extra minutes to verify a listing before sending money can help protect you and your family from becoming victims of fraud.

Public Notice of Large-scale Law Enforcement operation in Fresno County.

Today (Thursday morning), a multi-agency law enforcement operation took place in Fresno County. Sanger PD Officers assisted multiple other agencies in serving search warrants at numerous homes in relation to ongoing investigations of violent crimes.

These actions are NOT related to any sort of immigration enforcement… meaning these are NOT I.C.E. agents.

More details of the operation will be released at a later time.

This Memorial Day, we reflect on the sacrifices of the brave heroes who gave their lives for our freedom. As we come together with loved ones, let us remember to honor the memory of those who did not come home. Their courage and sacrifice continue to uphold every freedom we value.

At approximately 0849 hours, Sanger Police officers were dispatched to 1308 Church Avenue, the Town House Motel, regarding a 44-year-old male who was found unresponsive inside a parked vehicle in the motel parking lot.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the male deceased. Due to the suspicious nature of the death, Sanger Police Detectives, assisted by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, conducted an investigation.

At this time, investigators do not believe the death to involve foul play. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.

Come out to our bicycle rodeo today from 11am - 3pm, we will be located along West Ave in front of City Hall and the Fire Department. There will be free bicycle and e-bike registrations, helmets, bicycle repairs by BikeMasters, hamburgers, hotdogs, a bike obstacle course and safety information. Also, every child that registers their bike at the event today will receive a free snowcone from Kona Ice donated by Sanger Police Officers and Sanger Firefighters Associations.

Reminder, Sanger PD will be hosting a Bike Rodeo this Saturday, May 23rd from 11am - 3pm. Bring your bicycles and e-bikes out, get them registered, learn safety skills, practice hand signals, go through an obstacle course and more. We hope to see you there!
