We hope everyone is having an enjoyable holiday weekend! As a reminder, our Visitor Education Center will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. It will remain closed through the week as we attend to some fall cleaning and maintenance.

We look forward to seeing you when we re-open on Monday, September 14th at 10AM!

🦉Note: Our hospital will remain open during this time to receive any injured, sick or orphaned wildlife.

It’s National Wildlife Day — since the start of 2026, CROW has admitted 177 unique species of birds, mammals, and reptiles.

Many of these patients were directly affected by the actions of humans. Some were hit by cars, others were taken illegally from the wild, and still others were stuck in glue traps or poisoned by rodenticide.

Our primary goal is to give these sick, injured, and orphaned animals a second chance, despite the overwhelming odds against them.

We also work to educate the public about wildlife. As Bradley Miller wrote, “Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is as valuable to the child as it is to the caterpillar.”

If you’d like to support our work as a wildlife hospital, please consider donating today.

It’s squirrel season, and we have over 30 young Eastern Grey Squirrels in care! As squirrels grow, they need plenty of space and enrichment to accommodate their energy and wild instincts.

💡Before rescuing any animal, call your local wildlife rehab (like CROW) to make sure that animal actually needs your help. This may prevent accidental “abductions,” where a healthy animal is taken from the wild.

Happy National Beach Day from your favorite island wildlife hospital! ☀️🌊

Today, remember that beaches aren’t just pretty places to visit. They’re also crucial habitat for hundreds of species, which rely on shorelines for feeding, nesting, resting, and more.

Be a responsible beach-goer:
- 🚮Don’t litter. Trash can be deadly to marine life and seabirds.
- 🪶Give wildlife space. Don’t chase flocks of birds, especially if you see some sitting down. They’re likely exhausted and getting much-needed rest!
- 🎣Clear your gear. Don’t leave fishing hooks, tackle, or loose line out in the wild. We regularly admit wild animals tangled or pierced by fishing tackle.

It's baby squirrel season! Do you know what to do if you spot a baby squirrel on the ground?

If ANY squirrel is injured, cold, lethargic, or has been caught by a cat or dog, call CROW at (239) 472-3644 ext. 222.

If the baby is active and uninjured, watch from a distance and see if mom comes back. She is likely in the area and should return within 4 hours (if she doesn't, call CROW). If the baby is not old enough to climb, mom can actually carry the fallen baby back up the tree!

Remember: CROW is your resource. If you don't know whether to intervene, please call us!

We are very pleased to announce that Gulf Coast News anchor Channing Frampton will be our emcee for WILD About CROW 2027!

"We're excited to welcome Channing as emcee," says Grace Murphy, our Director of Communications and Development. "His passion for environmental reporting and appreciation for Florida's native birds and wildlife make him a natural fit for WILD About CROW. He’s also going to get a first-hand look at how passionate our supporters are in Southwest Florida and beyond.”

WILD About CROW is our largest annual gala, bringing our community together to celebrate Southwest Florida's native and migratory wildlife while also raising essential funds for our hospital and research programs.
