Sanibel Fire Rescue District Sanibel Fire and Rescue District’s mission is to “Serve to Protect”.

To provide an array of services dedicated to protecting the lives and property of the community, by providing timely and expert service in fire, medical, and disaster management. Sanibel Fire & Rescue District provides fire and rescue services in Fire Operations, Advanced Life Support (non-transport), Advanced Water Rescue, Hazardous Materials Response, and Confined Space Rescue.

With approximately 17 square miles of land and nearly 25 miles of shoreline, Sanibel’s surrounding waterways present unique challenges for emergency responders. This week, with members of Captiva Fire, our rescue swimmers sharpened their skills in the pool and the open-water. 🏝️

From strong currents, rough surf, boating emergencies and distressed swimmers, our crews train to respond to any water-related emergency. When seconds matter, preparation saves lives. Our commitment to protecting our community doesn’t end at the shoreline! 🌊🏊

Our all-hazards team responds to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and water-related incidents. Serving an island community means being ready to work in, on, and around the water when the call requires it.

We’re looking for people who thrive on challenge, adapt quickly, and put others first. If that sounds like you, join us as a Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter/Paramedic.

Exciting progress is being made on the construction of our new Sanibel Fire & Rescue Station 171!

As you can see, things are really starting to take shape! Each day brings us one step closer to a modern facility that will better support our firefighters and enhance our ability to serve the Sanibel community for years to come.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as construction continues. We look forward to sharing more updates as this exciting project moves forward!

🇺🇸 ONE WEEK FROM TODAY! 🚴‍♂️

On Saturday, October 17th, the Brotherhood Ride will roll out from Fort Myers Fire Station #11 to begin our 7-day journey honoring 22 Florida First Responders who died in the line of duty while protecting their communities.

We invite you to join us for our Send-Off Ceremony as we come together to honor these heroes and ensure they are NEVER FORGOTTEN.

🕖 7:00 AM – Reading of the names of the fallen first responders we have honored on our past rides.

🇺🇸 8:00 AM – Send-Off Ceremony

🚴 Following the ceremony – Our team will depart to begin the 2026 Brotherhood Ride!

🚒 Our crews visited The Children's Education Center of the Islands to celebrate Fire Prevention Week!

The kids learned about fire safety, explored the protective gear we wear, and heard the sounds our equipment makes, helping them feel more comfortable seeing a firefighter in full gear during an emergency. They also got a firsthand look at our fire trucks!
