Chispa Chispa is a brave organizing political home for young Latinxs in Orange County. Chispa was created as a response to the results of the 2016 election results.

Despite the growth of the Latinx population, the country elected a President who built his campaign on attacks against communities of color, and who quickly moved to implement racist policies that seek to criminalize and police people of color. Locally, Orange County remains as conservative as ever, and Latinxs remain marginalized due to a lack of political clout. Even in Santa Ana, which maintain

s a Latinx City Council, Latinxs find themselves being pushed out by gentrification, a lack of affordable housing, and a growing preference by the city to divest from investments in youth programming in exchange for investments in failed tough on crime policies and cuts to police accountability. Chispa was born in order to build a political home for young Latinxs to grow the people power necessary to hold elected officials accountable and responsive to the needs of working class Latinxs in the county.

The Santa Ana Police Department published their Military Equipment Report.

Here are some key takeaways:
🔘 215 40mm projectiles were deployed
🔘 Maintenance costs for the equipment in a single year totals $51,890
🔘 The drones the council majority led by Mayor Amezcua approved will cost taxpayers a whopping $682,900 over three years. But we don’t have the funds to sustain our public commissions right? 🤡

🚨 CALL TO ACTION: GET FLOCK OUT OF COSTA MESA!

📅 WHEN: Tues., June 16, at 6PM.
📍 WHERE: Council Chambers 77 Fair Drive 92626
Make your comments during the “Public Comments – Matters Not Listed on the Agenda” period at the beginning
This affects everyone who lives, works, shops, or drives through Costa Mesa! You don't have to be a resident to speak out.
📧 EMAIL: [email protected] before 12pm
⁉️ WHY: Costa Mesa contracts with Flock to blanket the city with always-on Flock mass surveillance license plate reader (ALPR) cameras. These devices don’t just capture license plates; they track our daily movements and store them, to be searched on demand without reasonable suspicion or warrants. This is a massive invasion of privacy and a waste of taxpayer funds. These cameras arguably violate our 4th Amendment rights against unwarranted searches and seizures. We have seen that policies are not enough to protect our communities. These databases have been routinely abused and misused. In spite of laws like SB34, California law enforcement agencies have been found sharing with agencies like ICE and DHS over and over again.

We are proud to celebrate Supervisor Sarmiento’s re-election to the Orange County Board of Supervisors! 🥳🙌🏽

We’ve been a strong supporter of Vicente Sarmiento since his mayoral race back in 2020.

We look forward to working closely with him to pass policies that benefit Latinos and working class people across District 2!
