Today, we remember Deputy Bradley J. Riches on the 27th anniversary of his End of Watch.

On June 12, 1999, Deputy Riches was serving the Lake Forest community when he was killed in the line of duty while on routine patrol. He was just 34 years old.

Brad’s commitment to service began long before he became a Deputy Sheriff. He served as a firefighter and EMT before joining the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, where he was known for his compassion, humility, and willingness to help others. In 1990, he was awarded the Medal of Courage for disarming a distraught individual, and colleagues remember him as someone with a larger-than-life presence and an even bigger heart.

As we honor his sacrifice, we also remember the legacy he helped build. Deputy Riches once created a Wall of Honor recognizing those who made the ultimate sacrifice, engraving the words: “They Are Not Dead Who Live in the Lives They Leave Behind.”

Today, we remember Deputy Bradley Riches, give thanks for his service, and keep his loved ones and all who served beside him in our thoughts.

We are grateful to learn that the officer injured in today’s violent encounter is expected to recover after his ballistic vest stopped the round that struck him in the chest.

What began as an attempt to stop a possible stolen vehicle quickly escalated into a dangerous pursuit and officer-involved shooting- another sobering reminder that law enforcement officers never know what dangers await them when they answer the call to serve.

We extend our thoughts and prayers to this officer, his family, and his brothers and sisters at . We also recognize the professionalism, courage, and swift actions of the responding officers during this critical incident.

Our thoughts are with and SFPD Officer Brittney Taylor shot in the line of duty Sunday night in San Francisco’s Bayview District.

According to authorities, Officer Taylor was struck multiple times during a violent encounter that followed a vehicle pursuit. She is expected to survive but faces a long road to recovery. Two suspects were taken into custody, and fi****ms were recovered at the scene.

Every day, law enforcement professionals put themselves in harm’s way to protect their communities. We stand with our brothers and sisters in blue and wish SFPD Officer Taylor strength, healing, and a full recovery.

Today, AOCDS was honored to stand alongside thousands of law enforcement officers, survivors, and supporters from across the nation at the National Peace Officers Memorial Service on the West Lawn of the United States Capitol in Washington during National Police Week.

This solemn and powerful ceremony serves as one of the nation’s most significant tributes to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. National leaders, including Vice President JD Vance, joined law enforcement personnel and surviving families in paying tribute to America’s fallen heroes and recognizing the sacrifices made by those who wear the badge in service to their communities.

AOCDS was proud to have our Honor Guard and Pipe Band representing Orange County and standing shoulder to shoulder with agencies from across the country in remembrance of those who gave everything in service to others. We also paid tribute to our own End of Watch heroes whose names are forever etched into the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial- a permanent reminder that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Throughout this week, we have witnessed the incredible unity of the law enforcement profession as officers, deputies, investigators, families, and supporters gather not only to mourn, but to honor, reflect, and ensure the legacy of the fallen lives on.

To all of our fallen heroes: your sacrifice will always be remembered, your service will never be forgotten, and your watch will continue through those who carry the mission forward.

The 32nd Annual Pipe Band Memorial March and Service took place yesterday in Washington, DC, as part of National Police Week. Organized by the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies (NCLEES), the event brought together massed law-enforcement pipe bands, honor guards, and agencies from across the United States and Canada in tribute to fallen officers.

Marchers stepped off from Capitol Hill and proceeded to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, where the memorial service honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The ceremony featured memorial wreath presentations, guest speakers, honor guards, and the powerful sound of pipes and drums echoing through the Memorial grounds.

Our Pipe Band and Honor Guard were proudly represented among the agencies participating in this year’s march and service, standing alongside law-enforcement professionals from across the country in remembrance, unity, and respect for the fallen.
