Apply to become a Santa Barbara County Lifeguard! Application deadline is Tuesday, February 24th at 4:59pm PST

-Application must be submitted before attending a tryout.

Tryouts are scheduled for March 7 and March 14 at Arroyo B***o Beach County Park (Hendry’s Beach).

See application for details.

Applicants must complete a 1000 meter ocean swim in under 20 minutes to receive an interview. Wetsuits, goggles and swim caps ARE allowed.
Interviews will be held SAME DAY as tryout swim.

You’re Invited: Public Workshop on Coastal Resilience in the Goleta Slough

Resilient Cities Catalyst is thrilled to invite you to join Goleta Slough Management Committee and Heal the Ocean for the first public workshop to develop a shared vision and advance coastal resilience for communities and systems in across the Goleta Slough in the face of increased impacts of climate change and other challenges. Your perspectives will directly inform future multibenefit projects impacting the Slough. Workshop participants will have an opportunity to learn about the initiative and provide input on their experiences with the slough, including:

- Elevating your priorities for the region
- Envisioning a resilient future for the slough and its surrounding assets like Goleta Beach and the Santa Barbara Airport
- Identifying how climate change and environmental considerations related to the Slough may impact local communities

Central Coast Section - American Planning Association, California Chapter hosted its annual Planning Awards Event on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

The County of Santa Barbara was awarded the Resilience and Sustainability Award of Merit in recognition of the 2030 Climate Action Plan and Environmental Impact Report, alongside our partners at Rincon Consultants, Inc. and BluePoint Planning.

Sustainability Division Manager, Garrett Wong, was present to accept the award on behalf of the County, accompanied by Erica Linard from Rincon.
