March 22nd, the Santa Barbara County Workforce Development Board (SBCWDB) held one of the biannual full board meetings.
Our board members, a diverse representation from education, business, labor, and government sectors gathered at the cornerstone event to discuss the strides we're making toward empowering our workforce.
π¨οΈ Sandra Dickerson, our esteemed Chair, initiated the meeting with warm and welcoming remarks.
Luis Servin, Executive Director, set the agenda with an inspiring introduction, emphasizing the various activities and programs the SBCWDB is engaged in.
The agenda was rich with insightful reports and presentations, including:
πΉ Jeremy Goldberg, Executive Director of the Central Coast Labor Council provided an overview of the council's role in advocating for workers' rights and the initiatives it undertakes to support the labor community in the Central Coast. β
πΉ Bill Baker, Business Manager of the IBEW Local Union 413, discussed the Electrical Apprenticeship opportunities available in Santa Barbara County, showcasing pathways to skilled trades. β‘οΈ
πΉ Rick Rantz, Dean of Academic Affairs at Allan Hancock College, presented a proposal for a new B.S. degree in Applied Professional Studies, tailored to our regional workforce needs. π
πΉ Joshua Boswell, Vice President of Policy and Economic Development at REACH, shared findings from Brookings Institution research on innovation hubs, underlining the technology sectors that are key to our regional competitiveness. π‘
πΉ Josh Williams, President of BW Research Partnerships Inc., examined the workforce challenges facing Santa Barbara County, discussing industry clusters, job quality, and career pathways, complemented by feedback from a qualitative employer survey. π
