Posted • What a journey! I want to thank every one of you who voted for me, and for everyone along the way that I got to have conversations with. I am forever changed, and my heart for this district has expanded tremendously through this process.

Though the outcome was not what I (and we) had hoped, I do know I will never stop doing what I can to help our community, and I am excited about putting my energy back into those things that make a difference.

Thank you for the encouragement, and thank you for your kindness. It truly was humbling and amazing.

-Jeff

Posted • As you vote today, my hope is that you make choices based on feeling heard as a constituent. Elected officials are a voice for the people they serve. The greatest good an elected official can do is first listen to needs, and then be a voice for their constituents. A leader with a service mindset will always put the interests of people over party. Anything other than that is a disservice to our community. It would be an honor to serve you in this way.

Posted • Your voice matters and it needs to be heard! I believe one of the reasons we have low voter turnout is due to the feeling that voters don't believe their votes count or matter. In our current voting system, election winners do not always get a majority of an overall vote. I am a proponent of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV), which gives more power to voters by allowing them to rank their candidate choices, in order of preference, instead of only choosing one. It helps break the 2-party hold on elections, and leads to more civil political campaigns. But until we can get this issue fixed, I want to send out this reminder to vote! Your vote matters and is important!

Posted • I've frequently been asked to speak about the top 2-3 issues I would address if elected. In my opinion there are at least 10-12 significant issues that the federal government needs to improve. But our system has been slow moving and lacks the same innovation and efficiency the private sector does. 2-6 years is too long to be in office to write and pass very few bills. Don't settle for less! We need government to step up and take efficient action on multiple fronts. I am committed to tackling these issues so that we can have a foundation that helps us thrive for years to come.

You may have noticed my statement is not in the voter guide. No, I didn't miss any deadlines or forget to add it. I was priced out at $10k per county. My campaign is about doing things differently. It's about a non-partisan, independent approach to Congress where everyone has equal opportunity to run for office. It's about putting people in our community over party. Please consider me and don't forget to vote!

Posted • From my perspective as a veteran, it is paramount that our military can respond with overwhelming and incomparable force, and this ever-constant capability ensures the greatest level of peace for us as a country. As we see the unfolding of the Ukraine invasion by Russia, we recognize that the ability of our Defense Department to protect our country and its people must never be weakened. Financially, we need to streamline military spending without diminishing our capabilities.

Posted • They VA has an aging infrastructure that needs to be brought up to current technology standards so they can serve veterans more efficiently. They are also tremendously short-staffed and this needs to be resolved. At the same time, successful organizations in the private sector continually analyze their business processes to become more efficient and financially profitable. I believe similar analysis needs to occur with the VA so they can make better use of the resources they do have.

Last night my interview aired on KEYT (ABC 3 and CBS 12). I wanted to clear up any misinformation based upon a statement about my current status as a chaplain. I was honored to serve as a chaplain from 2017-2019 but I am not currently a chaplain for them. Thank you.

Posted • The VA (Department of Veterans Affairs) is still struggling to serve our district’s 38,000 veterans at the level they deserve. The Veterans Health Administration is the largest integrated health system in the country, serving over 9 million patients through hundreds of health facilities. A highly functioning VA is vital for taking care of our veterans’ physical and mental well-being, but it continues to fall short despite being given a larger and larger budget. We must work on improving this.

Posted • California receives 8-9% of its education funding from the federal government, for which Congress holds the budget. This funding should continue to be allocated for high-need students. It should also be reserved for education options outside the public school system, such as charter schools, trade schools, homeschooling, etc. As parents, having options as to how our children are educated is a primary goal of mine and I will fight for this to be mandated with any federal funds that are received by the state.
