Reports of a consistent influx of Styrofoam has been regularly reported at Hendry’s Beach for several months. While multiple organizations are focusing efforts to find the source, we are reaching out to residents and those who frequent the area to share any information regarding where the potential source could be.

Styrofoam is a major concern for stormwater management. This common material is known as polystyrene and is non-biodegradable and breaks down into microplastics which persist in the environment for centuries, contaminating our waterways and other ecosystems.

The Environmental Defense Center (EDC) and our local city partners have done some amazing work cleaning and protecting our local creeks and waterways this past year. 13,394 LBS of waste was removed by volunteers in 2023 breaking the EDC record! Thank you to all who participated! We look forward to another great year.

Creek Cleanup Alert!

This Saturday, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am, to clear trash from Maria Ygnacio Creek.

Volunteers will meet at the corner of Ribera Drive and Matorral Way (where the Maria Ygnacio Bike Path crosses under Highway 101). We're excited to partner with the Environmental Defense Center, the City of Goleta, and Santa Barbara Channel Keeper on this project.

This giving season don't forget to give your local creeks and waterways some love by looking after what flows into them! Ideally, only rainwater should be what enters the storm drain system. Be thankful and look after this beautiful place we live.

A storm is on the horizon, and it's time to be the frontline defenders against pollution entering our storm drains. 💧🛡️
🌿 Sweep and Secure: Give your driveway and yard a pre-rain sweep. Secure loose items to prevent them from making a slippery journey into storm drains.
🚗 Leak Lockdown: Ensure your car isn't leaking fluids. Let's stop oil and chemicals from hitching a ride to the storm drain party.
🚫 No Dumping Zone: Remind neighbors that storm drains aren't garbage disposals. Report any illegal dumping to protect our drains.
🌐 Community Call-to-Arms: 📣 Spread the Word: Share these tips far and wide! Let's create a united front against stormwater pollution. Tag your community and make some noise! 🤝🌐

Tis the season! Leaves are falling and accumulating all over! Remember keep Storm Drains cleared of leaves and other organic material.
Matting of leaves causes storm drain systems to back up leading to localized flooding. The accumulation of leaves also increases levels of Phosphorus in our local creeks and water bodies, which in turn is detrimental to the overall health of these environments and the beings that inhabit them. Storm drain inlets are a critical part of the overall storm drain system so it is important to keep them clear. Even if you do not live next to a waterway, leaves that pile up on your street or in storm drains will end up impacting nearby waterways.

Join us TONIGHT! for a outdoor screening of 'The Beaver Believers', 'The Octopus Garden', and a preview of the NatureTrack Film Festival lineup! This event will be held at 2981 Cliff Drive (Arroyo B***o Beach) Next to the Boathouse restaurant. Films will begin just after 7pm outside on the lawn and the Watershed Resource Center will be open from 530pm until the films begin. Hope to see you there and happy Creek Week!
