The Santa Barbara County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office is alerting shoppers about “short‑weight” products, items that contain less than what’s printed on the label.
Our Weights & Measures team has recently found products on store shelves that don’t match their stated net weight. That means consumers may be paying for a product they never received.

Here’s how inspectors protect you:
• Audit inspections to confirm weight, measure, and count
• Precision equipment that subtracts packaging (“tare weight”)
• Ensuring fair competition so honest businesses aren’t undercut
Your eyes matter too! If you suspect a product is short‑weight, your report can help keep the marketplace fair for everyone.

9 out of 10 wildfires are caused by humans. Many everyday things can create sparks that cause fires. Here are some tips to help prevent fires in your community.
🚙 Maintain vehicle brakes & tires, and secure tow chains to avoid dragging. Don't drive on dry grass or brush.
🏠 Mow your lawn and pastures early in the morning when it is not windy or excessively dry. Do NOT use power tools outside on hot & windy days, as a spark can spread a fire.
💧 Keep water stored near campfires, fire pits, grills, smokers, burning brush, etc.
🚫 Never toss lit ci******es on the ground. Put ashes in a metal container with a tight lid.

In observance of the holiday, County of Santa Barbara offices will be closed on Monday, May 25 and will reopen on Tuesday, May 26.
