I drove by Wilcox High School this morning and was struck by the sight of a custodian alone on the track, cleaning up around the football field. It was a simple moment, but it reminded me of how much work happens behind the scenes before and after major events like graduation.
We often celebrate the graduates, applaud the speeches, and enjoy the ceremonies, but rarely do we stop to think about the many people whose efforts make those moments possible. Long before families arrive and long after the last photo is taken, there are dedicated individuals setting up chairs, preparing facilities, coordinating logistics, ensuring safety, managing parking, maintaining grounds, cleaning up, and making sure everything runs smoothly.
Today, I want to express my gratitude to the custodial staff, groundskeepers, maintenance teams, administrative assistants, teachers, counselors, security personnel, campus supervisors, technology and audio-visual staff, volunteers, parent organizations, and school administrators who contribute countless hours to creating memorable experiences for students and families.
These individuals may not stand at the podium or receive public recognition, but their work is essential. Seeing the custodian this morning was a powerful reminder that successful events are built on the dedication of people who often work quietly in the background. Thank you for everything you do to support our students and our community. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and they are deeply appreciated.
