According to data provided by the CA Department of Justice and PoliceScorecard.com, Santa Clara's police department scores just 40 on a scale of 0-100. Black persons are 5.8x and Latinx persons 2x more likely than Whites to be killed by Santa Clara police. Under the current elected police chief, complaints against officers and alleged crimes committed by officers has skyrocketed. Of California's 336 municipal (city) police departments, the City of Santa Clara is the only one that still elects its police chief. We're trying to change that. The current system doesn't allow for police leaders outside the city to apply for the position and the current police chief has the lowest education in the entire County. Join us in supporting a change from elected to appointed police chief in the City of Santa Clara.
