Join us for a free compost giveaway this Saturday, August 29!

Fall is just around the corner! Now is the perfect time to prep your garden beds with nutrient-rich compost for Spring blooms.

Stop by the City’s Corporation Yard, 1700 Walsh Ave., from 7:30–11 a.m. to pick up free compost.

How to Participate:
• Bring a current utility bill and/or personal ID for verification.
• Bring your own sturdy containers (such as 5-gallon buckets or hard plastic totes).
• Limit: 40 gallons per household. Compost is available while supplies last, and quantities are limited.

Traffic Notice: Please access the Corporation Yard on Walsh Avenue from Lafayette Street. Access on Walsh Avenue will be blocked at Scott Boulevard for traffic safety.

🚧 Construction is coming to Lafayette Street

LS Power is preparing to begin construction on the Power the South Bay Project along Lafayette Street between Highway 237 and Fairway Glen Drive.

Construction is expected to begin mid-to-late August 2026 and continue through 2028, with work completed in phases. The project is primarily underground and is intended to improve the reliability of the power supply for local homes and businesses.

Additional updates regarding construction timing and potential impacts, including traffic, noise, and dust, will be provided as the project moves forward.

The Planning Division invites you to a scoping meeting for the proposed project at 3240 Scott Blvd. The meeting will gather feedback on the environmental topics and information to be included in the project’s Environmental Impact Report (EIR). Following this discussion, Black Sky Developers will seek input on the proposal to build an eight-story, 225-unit apartment building along Scott Blvd. between Bowers Avenue and San Tomas Expressway. City Staff will be in attendance to document feedback.
