The Santa Clara City Council will consider a proposed 2% SVP electric rate increase on November 17, 2026. If approved, it would take effect in January 2027.

The proposed increase would help cover rising material and construction costs, fund critical infrastructure improvements, and maintain financial reserves to support safe, reliable electric service.

If you or someone in your household relies on electrically powered medical or health and safety equipment, make sure you have a backup plan in place in case of an outage.
This may include CPAP machines, oxygen equipment, mobility devices, medication refrigeration, medical monitors or other essential equipment.

📞 Keep important medical and emergency contacts handy
💊 Have essential medications and supplies available
📋 Talk with your medical provider about your needs during an extended outage
🏠 Have a plan for where you can go if you need access to reliable power

Join Silicon Valley Power (SVP) and the City of Santa Clara in celebrating Public Power Week, Oct. 4–10, as SVP also marks a special milestone - 130 years of powering Santa Clara.

Founded in 1896, Silicon Valley Power has grown alongside Santa Clara for 130 years, from powering the community’s first electric streetlights to serving one of the most innovative and energy-intensive communities in the nation. This Public Power Week, we’re celebrating that history while looking ahead to the future of community-owned power.

SVP joins approximately 2,000 other community-powered, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to more than 55 million Americans across 49 states and five U.S. territories.

We're proud to serve Santa Clara with a high level of reliability and care. As your local, community-owned utility, we prioritize customer service, energy savings and powering our community with integrity and dedication.

A lot has changed in Santa Clara since 1896, but our commitment to powering our community hasn't.

See the historic scenes of Franklin Street and Main Street around the turn of the century, featuring unpaved roads, horse-drawn carriages, early streetcars, and some of the city's very first overhead utility poles and hanging arc lamps.

While our equipment, technology, and engineering practices look vastly different today, our mission as a community-owned utility remains unchanged: providing safe, reliable, and affordable energy to the people and businesses of Santa Clara.

🔥 A Heat Advisory is in effect. High temperatures can increase electricity demand and strain the power grid.

Help conserve energy by:
