In September, Santa Clara Police Detectives identified a suspect connected to a commercial burglary in Santa Clara. As the investigation continued, detectives uncovered evidence linking the suspect and associates to numerous commercial burglaries throughout Santa Clara County.
On October 20th, through persistent investigative work and the use of Flock License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology, Santa Clara Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) detectives located the suspects traveling in a neighboring city. Detectives conducted surveillance and ultimately arrested three suspects in a hotel parking lot in another neighboring city.
Our Burglary, Arson, and Major Fraud (BAM) detectives responded to assist with the investigation. Searches of two associated hotel rooms led to the recovery of stolen property, including thousands of dollars worth of musical instruments and electronics belonging to a church in a neighboring city. Detectives requested a patrol check of that church, which revealed that the church had been burglarized just hours earlier by the three suspects. Members of the church responded to the Santa Clara Police Department and recovered their stolen property.
Further investigation also revealed that an associate made a false 911 call during the original burglary, reporting a man with a gun at a hotel in Santa Clara in an apparent attempt to delay officers’ response.
Through the coordinated work of SET and BAM detectives, the investigation resulted in three arrests and the recovery of property stolen from our neighboring communities.
To those committing crimes in our city, you may not be caught in the act, but our investigations do not end when the crime is over. We will follow the evidence, identify those responsible, and pursue arrests. We remain focused on protecting our community.
